my gf has been my only workout partner the past 2 years so havent really tried maxing out. i did set a goal this winter to get 400 but the closest i got was 390. i can get 300x11 so mathematically i should get it but the few times i put that much weight on i could never push it. im getting old and really need to reach this goal soon.

i dont arch my back like presser either its all chest :bench:

I havent maxed out on bench press in ages! I kind of can gauge what my max is though by seeing how many reps i can get with 455lbs on my last set

I'm a powerlifter, so duh! Yeah I max out! Lol. I'm new to the sport though and just started training heavy a year ago. My current max is 295 (up 95 lbs in a year) but I'm doing a program where I bench 3x week for a month. I'm guessing when done I'll put up 315. Here's a look at my program

Mon: bench with bands - 18 sets, IBP - 10 sets
Tue: squat
Wed: bench with chains - 18 sets, CGBP - 10 sets
Thu: Deadlift
Fri: bench - 18 sets, floor press - 10 sets

Next week I start a similar deadlift program. That's gonna kill me. Lol

Hadn't maxed since my shoulder got fuked up years ago. I did 315 for 8 and maxed 385lbs. thats the best i've been able to do.

I think the last time I did anything close to maxing out I was at 275 at 160 pound BW. That was with an actual pause at the bottom then pressing (was thinking of doing a powerlifting meet)

I would be scared to max out now, to be honest. I could just see a pec tear happening.

That's why many will use the 1RM calculator. I use that on occasion, but I don't think it's quite as accurate as actually testing it yourself, but like you mentioned it can lead to bad things unless you're typically lifting heavy weight with low low reps
