Flu cost me 10 lbs!

I started coughing almost 3 weeks ago now and thought it must just be allergies. I was on night shift, it was a breezy night, and the doors to the plant were all open. The next night I couldn't make it through the shift and went home 3 hours early. I was out the rest of that week and all of the next. I was coughing so hard and for so long that I regularly ended up on hands and knees on the floor drenched in sweat from the effort. I timed it one morning , I coughed for 20 minutes straight ,no breaks. Take a breath, cough. Repeat. I had no apetite so had to force myself to eat, but couldn't keep up anywhere near my normal intake. This lasted for almost 2 solid weeks and I'm now back to work for a full week and back to working out.

It cost me 10 lbs! Strength is down on just about everything, of course. I had been benching 315 for 1 or 2 reps on my own, a 3rd with a spot from my wife.... the other day I struggled to get 275 up and got stuck with it on my chest on the 5th rep!! So now begins the slow struggle to claw back to where I was.

Amazing how fast it goes away... It sure doesn't come back that quick!

O, and the cough still lingers, though nowhere near as bad. But I'm still on some wicked cough syrup plus an inhaler! Next year I will get the flu shot!!

I sure hope so. I was supposed to play a hockey tournament that first weekend, which I obviously skipped. I don't yet have the wind to skate. Still coughing too much with exertion! Fuckin amazing , NEVER recall being down so long and so hard with the flu!

That flu is a killer. A couple years ago I was at my biggest I've ever been & caught the flu twice within 6 weeks. Took me a couple months to bounce back. Keep getting better brother

Get back to cracking and you will pack it back on quick. Glad you are ready to go again bruh.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Your stamina, and therefore your strength, is still down. You will get back to where you were in a couple of weeks.

sorry to hear that bro! i been sick since January 31st, no BS! super sick to, but just now starting to feel better, and man that coughing you have sounds awful!

My doctor gave me some gel cap prescription, i filled it but never took it as i never had a cough, mine was all sinuses and body aches. anyhow i looked up the cough script he gave me and it has lydocain or some shit in it that is suppose to numb the larnyx or somehting so you wont get that urge to cough when you breath in.

if ur cough is still bad, i can send it to ya bro, i never used it.

Presser, I'll take you up on that. The cough is better than it was, but I'm still using 2 different cough medicines and am almost out of both...

I just recovered from a 3 day stomach flu that put me in the hopsital for severe dehydration. My entire body went into convulsions and muscle spasms. Lost 15 lbs!

A couple weeks later and I'm back and actually looking better than before. There was a nice rebound effect once I started eating again. It's like my muscles sucked all the nutrients right up. In a way...it helped my physique lol.

Jozif, it seems to me like you're REALLY reaching for a silver lining! LOL!! That sounds awful, far worse than what I had.

My cough is still with me, but getting better every day, and I'm finally off all medication.

Strength is coming back, though I'm still down on bench press, which has always been my weakest exercise. Weight is coming back, too, so should be back to normal pretty soon!

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Great for contest prep though. :)
