How many gym rats actually get results

I was thinking about all the people at my gym who've had memberships for years and it got me wondering...what do y'all think the percentage is of people who actually make improvements over time whether it be fat loss or gain muscle? Not a big number from what I can tell. It seems like the majority of people at my gym always look the same or even gain weight (fat). I'm sure some really do want to "maintain", but for most the "I just want to maintain what I got" is just a cop out. I don't know about you, but I want to see results from all my HARD WORK at the gym. I don't put in all those sweat hours just to look the same 6 months down the road. I'm sure it's like this everywhere, but I'm interested in what others have to say.

I agree 100 percent! Guys that are in there daily, same time every day, same weight, same excercises, maxing out every workout on flat bench and curls! LOL looked the same 10 years ago as they do today! IF NOT WORSE! IF im not changing fuck it ill sit on the couch and eat cheetoes! Hell theyll taste good and i can curl those! HAHAHA

Ice cream....gotta have ice cream too if you want to be a REAL couch potato. Lol! Someone complimented me the other day and said I was putting on some size so I thanked them, but wanted to say I've been working out with The Dude for 4 years now, I'd kinda expect to see results...wouln't you? I left it alone since they were being nice to me after all :pleased: But their tone made it sound like it was out of the norm for me to actually have noticable changes over the years. People get too comfortable with their routine and think "I go to the gym so that's enough" I guess. I don't share their way of thinking so I'm not going to try and figure them out.

Good thread! It would be hard for me to put percentages out there, but there are definately different motives. Alot of people use it as a way to hook up. You know who they are. Some probably want to make changes, they just don't know how. Alot are probably going through the gym "phase". Then you have the CHAMPIONS!! The ones who go in day in and day out and bust their ass (even though theyre getting no results) and talk about how they compete and they're NATURAL... these are also the people that ask for advice, but never act on it. Then there are the very few who are in there for progress. They are the ones with the log books usually. They're always trying something new. Always open to new ideas and always progressing.

While I agree there it's a waste of time to go to the gym and not change anything, not everyone looks at it like we do. We are the minority. I'd say most people are satisfied feeling like they are active, and feel they are healthier because of it. If it makes them feel good and they keep going, good for them. On the flipside, I'd say there is also a portion that don't enjoy it and force themselves to go. They have the "Man I'm glad that's over" attitude every time they leave. When it's a chore to go to the gym, it's less likely you will exert yourself or make much progress. So many different mindsets, but the 'bust your ass to make progress' mindset that we carry is definitely rare.

ive seen the same poeple at the gym for years, and all of them look like shit. no improvements what so ever

I'm sure that some are in there under Dr's orders for their health now that I think about it. Few may simply be interested in "maintaining" or combating the age related loss in muscle mass.

I agree for the most part for sure!!! However in fairness I wanted to say that I do see and know of a couple guys in my gym who work their asses off, eat right, and do cardio like crazy, and im thinking of one guy speicificly that comes to mind cause i feel bad for him, he is this little mexican guy, and if i trained, dieted and cardiod even 25% of what he did I would be a Pro ten times over, but this poor fella has NEVER not once changeed in his apearance, lol. I shouldnt laugh actualy, and maybe he has gotten stronger as I dont know if he has or hasnt but i do know he looks the same day in and day out for years, and busts his ass, so i do feel for guys like this!

But more to your point, i couldnt agree more as most people are just there to say they are there, and waisting their time and money, I think alot of them are there to bullshit with others and maybe some are pervs there to look at women or men who knows, lol

I know the first gym i started out at was nothing more then a MEAT MARKET! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE was was wearing new gym cloth every day, lol, and the girls were al hot and wearing the skimpiest of cloths and it was known for being a HUGE MEAT MARKET,LOL.

By The Way I met My Wife in this Meat market Gym, 12 years ago! lol. However she was different she was in the weight room with the men kicking ass, so im glad I went to this meat market gym,lol

The gym im at now is more of a hardcore serious get down to biz gym and I see alot of guys whos appearnace never ever changes, pretty sad!

A lot of serious people work out at my gym but it does suck to see them bust their ass and always look the same. Leads me to believe it is not the training it is the diet and rest that is seriously lacking in their regimen. The leg press at my gym seems to be the place to update your facebook or text on your iphone, wtf??? Do we really need to text at the gym? Facebook status, sitting on leg press, loading plates, sitting some more, hoarding the equipment, pissing people off, jeez.

Lol, this remind me of the categories of people you see at the gym. Years ago on anabolex.com there was a thread about shit at the gym that pisses us off.

What is the worse is that 125lb dude that works out 7days a week and does 12 sets on every machine in the gym. And gives you a go to hell look when you ask to jump in, cause you only do 3 sets of 8-10 reps.

I just moved to south fl, Naples area. I saw a 110 lb Chinese man in there doing a whole body workout on the smith machine. For a solid hour the guy never left it. The guy was doing excersises I've never seen, you know ones he invented cause he's smarter than those books. Pisses me off cause I wanted to do shrugs on it.

What I'm saying is these gym parasites that never go or grow, usually have bad etiquette. I will say this, I give them kudos because they do go to the gym, but I wish they would get out ta the way.

The same chinese butthole was on the smith again tonight. Doing behind the neck presses with no weight on the bar. Geesh

Put an egg roll on another machine to draw him away from the smith. Geez do i need to do all the thinking around here lmao
