Well I think that most of the dust has settled from my trial run. The biggest impact was in my head - if you plan to do this you have got to do a trial run IMO, or you will freak out before the contest not knowing what to expect. I also did some water manipulation because I needed to get that part right this time, not the full strategy but enough to see the impact.
I started the carb load at 6pm Sunday night and ate pretty steady until about 10:30pm. Stuffed down another brownie and some applesauce at 4am or so, then had a big breakfast of eggs and pancakes with syrup.
I thought that I looked my hardest about 8:30 am Monday but because of the water restriction hit the wall about 9:30am. After drinking about 10 oz of water I filled out very nicely and stayed hard and tight. This fit well with timeing for contest morning.(I pretended that the contest was Monday)
I'm still sorting through how it went - Skips initial reaction is that it went pretty well but I had a bunch of questions for him. Sure gave me a lot of gas and GI discomfort! I smoothed out just a little mid-day Monday (on what would have been contest day) but then seemed to harden up again later in the day. With this trial run I went back to my normal pre-contest diet and normal water intake at noon on Monday so contest day would probably be different. So far, and it is the next morning now, I have not yet lost much detail. Maybe I will smooth over some later today???maybe not?? My weight from the trial run stayed the same from Friday morning until I checked it again Monday morning. If you did not limit water intake when you started the SL like I did, your weight would probably go up until your system flushes out all of the extra carbs and bonded water.
I can try to answer questions here or by pm if anyone has any. Skip and the guys who have done this more than once before are the experts - I'm just a SL newbie - try'in to jump on the TEAMSKIP parade Here is one pic from 830 am. I'm a little less than 4 weeks out so there is time to tweak yet. I did not change my regular training plan for the trial run, so I did not stop training legs nor trian for carb depletion.
