I've developed this theory about people in the gym and size comparisons. If two people are roughly the same size they tend to eye each other and have an unspoken competition. If their physiques are too different (skinny guy and a huge guy) they pay no attention to each other. Test my theory next time you walk into the gym.

I've noticed this myself although I'd say that in the case of the skinny guy and huge guy, the skinny guy will still look at the huge guy though the huge guy will not pay any attention to the skinny guy.

dude thats so funny....... it happened to me and this kid at my gym. He would always stare me down, and i'd ask my friends if him and i were the same size, and my friends would say i was bigger, but i always felt smaller. Now im friends with the kid, lol

happens to me but i really dont look at the other decent sized guys. I wear hoodies to the gym to keep people from staring. Anytime theres a decent sized dude in there everytime i turn around they are staring at me. Its annoying i dont give them the satisfaction to stare at them

the other day at the gym there was a dude with one of those stinger tank tops on. He had pretty good size to him. When I walked in the gym he stared at me for about five minutes and put his other shirt back on. Thought that was funny. Guess he got to be the biggest guy in the gym for a little while. haha

It is in every walk of life. As a species we love comparing ourselves to others, especially alpha males. It doesn't matter if it's in the gym, comparing the arm candy we are sporting with others, exam scores in school...the things we compare are endless. I think it's amazing the amount of time and energy we waste on doing these things when the only comparison we need is with our old selfs. I think the people who end up at the top of their game in their respective fields, regardless of what it is, are the ones who don't do this. The ones to don't compare themselves to others, or at least minimize the comparison as it is very hard not to do sometimes, instead they spend their time looking at where they've been, where they want to go, and figuring out the best way to get there.
