Hockey game last night and training today. My calf is healed well enough to skate without any problems. Running is still out except for light jogging for very short distances. I'll continue to ride the Assault bike for cardio.
Last week, I had the idea that I'd ride the Assault bike daily except for a rest day Sunday and except for hockey days. That has proved impractical. I need more rest days than that. This week, I will skip cardio tomorrow and do it Saturday. I'll plan for Saturday; Monday; Wednesday. Last night's game was the last one until August 11 but Thursday training continues. Hopefully, I can gauge cardio improvement by my performance in training. Today was especially rough because of the game last night. Plus, I've been laying block all week. That project is finally finished, thankfully. Working in the sun and humidity has really taken it out of me.
The tryouts (it's actua being billed as a "pro development camp") were officially announced 2 days ago and I registered yesterday. So that's locked in. Published dates are 9/20-22, which doesn't make any sense because that's Sunday through Tuesday. It's more likely going to be Fri through Sun or maybe Fri & Sat or even Sat and Sun. We'll see about that once some communication is forthcoming from the team. But regardless, I'm signed up.
I want to reiterate that I have absolutely no expectation that I will make the team. The chances of that are exactly zero. I'll be a month away from 57 years old at the time of the camp. The best I can hope for is to be called to fill an empty spot created by an injury or a call-up to a higher league. Those things happen all the time and with no notice. I'll be delighted if I get an opportunity like that. Even that is unlikely, but you never know. No matter what, it'll be a blast and a chance to play some high level hockey.
Meanwhile, I'll add hitting the heavy bag to my Assault bike cardio; my neighbor has a heavy bag - a speed bag, too, which wouldn't hurt either. That's good cardio and it won't hurt to be well practiced in throwing punches. It's minor league pro hockey, after all.
I'll get back to some kind of weight training tomorrow...
