As I approach the 2 Decade mark I've come to realize a number of truths that I've never seen mentioned. Perhaps many only apply to me, but I doubt that. I've been counting grams of protein since age 12. I've brought cans of tuna on dates through High School and College. I have never been out of the gym for more than 10 days or there abouts including my Pec Tear and surgery and Bicep tear and surgery. I'm starting this to organize what I've come to see as universal truths when it comes to training. I'm going to pos these as they come to me. Feel free to post your thoughts, experiences or questions.
1. Genetics play a big role, HOWEVER, in my experience that only applies to those that wish to compete at the highest levels. I've seen guys and girls with pretty average genetics attain some amazing physiques! Training, diet, supplementation, sleep, and a positive mindset will allow anyone to attain a physique that they may not even think possible themselves!
2. Your body will grow how and when it chooses. I'm not talking about putting on 20lbs from a decent cycle, I mean solid physique changing gains. You can provide the building blocks, but everyone seems to "stumble" across a miraculous program that changes their physique completely in a short time and utterly amazes them. In my experience, this isn't your training or anything special you've done. Your body has been given sufficient stimulus and building blocks for an ample period of time and now has chosen to make changes. Ride it out! It's not up to you! It may happen when you are taking a break, dieting for a show, or wanting to put an 1" on your calves. For me it seems to be one or two muscle groups at a time and it has nothing to do with what I want.

3. There is really no way to tell what you will look like as you get bigger and progress as a bodybuilder. I can't tell you how many times I've said "if I could just get my biceps a little bigger" or "another inch on my calves". The muscle doesn't always grow the way you think it will. Sometimes things just get bigger... and take up more space.
4. Solid muscle gains vs New gains. This is something you see all the time. You can almost always looks at a guy and see how much muscle has been there for a while. Old muscle fills out the fascia and gives a three dimensional look. I've been 250lbs numerous times over the years and the way I look now is SUBSTANTIALLY different. Many call this maturity and in my opinion it isn't just aged muscle, but continuous small gains throughout the muscle. Years of different groups of fibers being forced to grow as the fibers around them surpass their abilities. As all the fibers fill in and attain new size, the muscle gains a much more three dimensional look. You can see this with the guys whose weight may stay the same, but over the years they develop a more freaky look. For me, this takes about three years from the time I first attain that weight at a good bodyfat.

Im still stuck on the fact that you brought cans of TUNA on dates in highschool and college lol, So how will you know if its her stinking or not? lol, sorry I couldnt resist the immaturity lol, but really you packed tuna on dates? lol

Ya man. I was that obsessed. I would open and drain them before hand and put them in ziplock bags. I remember I would open them during movies and everyone would start bitching about the smell Lol! I don't know how I got any dates

If someone opened a can of tuna next to me at the movies they would have my foot up their ass in a heart beat lol that's just whacked lol

Eggwhites + sugar free chocolate syrop in a chocolate milk bottle = success on movie date. Most of the time, my dates just think I like drinking milk.

I like that. I'm sick and tired of eating egg whites. I'm up to two cups a day now and I was ready to puke everytime. Now I just add a scoop of whey and it's like dessert.

Good points....I'm totally with you on #4. I have been around the same bodyweight for the last three years, but I am quite a bit bigger now and look different than I did three years ago....even at basically the same bodyfat. Over time, the muscle grows and changes giving you a more freaky look.

Good Lord does that ever sound disgusting lmao!

I just made one with Silk the other night. 2 teaspoons of coffee, 1 tablespoon of cocoa, 1 cup of skim milk, some kind of weird organic chocolate syrup, 2 scoops of vanilla whey, and a cup and a half of Moosetracks Ice cream!!!
