5 Questions with Chad Nichols

1) What are the most common mistakes athletes make in contacting you as a "Guru?"
A) I would have to say the biggest mistake is that athletes will come to me either half-way through their prep or with very little time left before their contest and think I can wave a magic wand and clean up either their own or someone else's mistakes. Yes, I am good at what I do and I have actually pulled off a few miracles in my time,, but overall once an athlete starts a program, they need to follow through with the path they have already started. Jumping ship mid way through is a bad idea as the athlete won't learn from the experience and switching gears mid-stream or close to the end never garners the ultimate desired results.

2) How can you tell a guy or girl, they simply are not ready to compete prior to a show and how do you navigate them missing their "Peak?"
A) I'm very up front with my athletes - throughout the entire diet - whether it be praising them or dropping the hammer on them to keep them motivated - every athlete is different and I deal with their personal situations and personalities accordingly. If an athlete for whatever reason is not coming along well or I feel they are not going to be ready, I will tell them and we will look at their situation and find a different show. I would always be up front with an athlete rather than give them false hope that their outcome will be great if things just aren't working.

3) What do you believe is the most effective way to Peak- Carbs or No Cabs?
A) I don't know if you can say that there is a "most" effective way - as I utilize so many different theories - I don't have a "one size fits all" mentality - every athlete is different and I pride myself on creating the best game plan for each individual I work with. Some athletes need large amounts of carbs, others are carb sensitive - but if you are wanting to know if I ever utilize a "zero carb" plan - absolutely not. Even when peaking the body throughout the diet process - I utilize my diet style, which I have deemed "multi-phase manipulation" as I constantly change up the diet process for each individual and each individual's needs dictate what type of diet style we implement. Even if I put an athlete on very low amounts of carbs - they still are taking in some type of carbs every day.

4) What bodybuilder do you feel responded the best under your guidance and why?
A) I think obviously the one who responded the best, for several reasons is my wife, Kim. Obviously we were together 24 hours a day, so I could monitor her minute by minute as well as monitor everything she did. I knew her body so well that within hours, I knew if she had eaten something she shouldn't have and could pretty much pinpoint the exact type of food she had eaten by the way her body responded. Although, Kim is also someone that once she had a goal and plan put into motion - she very rarely veered off track she had a great work ethic and dedication to her career - which also helped us achieve great success - as working with an athlete is teamwork - it doesn't just lie all on the athlete or the nutritionist - both must put equal effort into the prep for complete success.

Ronnie Coleman is another athlete that responded fantastically. I knew from the very first time that I worked with him that he had the same dedication and champion mind set that would make him a champion. It is always an absolute pleasure to work with athletes such as Kim and Ronnie - as you give them the "game plan" and they combine that with their desire to be great and crazy genetics and that's when champions are made.

The one thing I can say is that I have been lucky over the years to have worked with many athletes such as Kim and Ronnie - and currently I have a fantastic team who all have this great mind set and desire to win.

5) Can a Bodybuilder who enlists your services become a Champion or just better than what they are and why?
A) I believe 100% that I can make any athlete better than they have ever been and I believe that I can make many athletes into champions - however, the athlete themselves must be the ones to put in the hard work, sweat and effort. I can provide them with the knowledge and game plan that will make them the best athlete they have ever been, but the ATHLETE is the one that has to follow the game plan, have the dedicated work ethic, suffer and have the champion mind set. Just hiring me isn't going to make someone a champion if they don't put in the work and effort - again, it's a complete team effort.

Thank you,

S RAY
