TIERRA VERDE – Pinellas County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and Flight Section, along with Florida Fish and Wildlife and U.S. Coast Guard are continuing to search for a Pinellas Park man who fell overboard near Fort De Soto Park Sunday afternoon.
About 4:30 p.m., Michael Rhine, 49, and his wife were near Bunces Pass when their 24-foot recreational boat began to have engine trouble. Michael was working on the outboard motor when he fell overboard. He did not resurface.
The U.S. Coast Guard said Sunday night that a Good Samaritan reported seeing a man fall overboard about 4:40 p.m. The man was reportedly wearing red shorts, without a shirt or life jacket.
Officials conducted the search by land, sea and air until about 11:00 p.m. April 7. Prior to daybreak Monday, deputies and officers resumed their search efforts, using various forms of sonar equipment, helicopters, and boats.
