Are "bodybuilders" making things to hard on themselves

I mean look at all the choices we have for gear, supplements, diets, training styles, and equipment to use.

We have way more options than back in the day, and still most people look like shit compared to bodybuilders back then, when things were just simple.

this could be said about bodybuilders and basic lifters alike....

most people forget about the simple things it takes to build muscle and a great physquie

diet, eating, rest, and old school training principals

I think it can be overwhelming for the beginner, but for the experienced guys its awesome. We know exponentially more now than back then including recovering from injuries and training around them.
I would have to disagree about most people looking like shit compared to guys back then. Depending on how far back you are looking (Arnold or Haney) the guys winning decent local shows would smoke them. In all I see nothing but progress. Yes waists are larger, but guys now are 40+ lbs heavier than Dorian at his prime and look at guys like Phil Heath and Dennis Wolf and let's not forget Dexter.

I think it's a lot more complicated, but I also think that the knowledge now is far beyond what they knew then. At the same time, what they did worked and is the reason we are able to do the things we can do now, it's an evolutionary process, you're still using their principles, just in an advanced nature I guess

Some aspects are overly complicated, but some of the progress is good. Peptides, slin and GH have an integral part in bodybuilding now, and that's good. I think all the fad diets and fad training can make things seem complicated though. I remember a post Nuk made actually, about how FST-7, DC and all this crap was unnecessary. Back in the day guys had their ducks in a row, and gave it 100%. I think that sums it up nicely.
