Samson Dauda entered the upper echelons of the IFBB Pro League Men’s Open division by finishing sixth at the 2022 Olympia in his debut. “The Nigerian Lion” won gold at the 2023 Arnold Classic, making him a significant contender to potentially reigning Mr. Olympia champion Hadi Choopan at the 2023 Olympia in the first week of November.

Known for his full muscle bellies and flowing physique, Dauda is considered one of the most aesthetic bodybuilders in the Men’s Open division. On July 31, 2023, Dauda took to his YouTube channel to share his grocery haul and how he prepares chicken and steak in bulk. At the time of recording, Dauda was just over 15 weeks out from the 2023 Olympia. Check it out below:

Samson Dauda’s Grocery Shopping
Dauda bought two weeks’ worth of groceries at a Makro supermarket. Here is his grocery list:

  • Chicken Breast — 10 kilograms
  • Eggs — 10 dozen
  • Frozen Chicken Thighs — Five kilograms
  • Salmon — Two kilograms
  • Steak — 10 kilograms
  • T-Bone Steak
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • White Rice — 20 kilograms
  • Reggae Sauce
  • Milk
  • Coffee
This trip to the grocery store set Dauda back £263.91 ($334.91), which is not unusual for an IFBB pro. Dauda would have also bought oats, as they are one of the primary sources of carbs, but skipped them as he already had an ample supply.

Cooking Chicken Breast & Steak
Dauda preps two weeks’ supply of chicken breast and steak in one go before storing them in the freezer. Since professional bodybuilders eat large quantities of food six to eight times a day, it is difficult to cook fresh food every time.

Dauda prepared chicken breast in two five-kilogram batches on a barbecue grill. He marinated the first batch in spicy seasoning and the second in mild. Dauda pre-cooked the chicken on the grill and then put it directly over the fire in foil for a smokey flavor.

The same approach was used to cook steak. However, Dauda placed the steak directly on the grill without foil, eliminating the need to pre-cook. Dauda eats 250 grams of chicken breast and 200 grams of steak per meal during his 2023 Olympia prep.

Road to 2023 Olympia
Dauda is not expected to compete at a show before the 2023 Olympia, scheduled for Nov. 2-5 in Orlando, FL. The Olympia Men’s Open roster is stacked with big names, including Derek Lunsford, Nick Walker, Brandon Curry, and Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay, all determined to thwart Choopan’s quest for a second consecutive Sandow trophy.

Andrew Jacked, Hunter Labrada, Michal Krizo, and William Bonac are a few top-tier bodybuilders that are still vying for direct qualification to the 2023 Olympia by winning a pro show.
