beer and working out?

if my diet is good but i have beers on the weekends with my friends is that going to take away from my gains? what about drinking beer while on gear? any personal stories would be helpful.:drooling:
 
My advice is to avoid drinking as much as you can while you are on. When you aren't...go crazy man. It also depend a lot of what you are using when you are on...anything that is 17-aa would be a definite red flag for me to avoid anything that would tax my liver even more.
 
Agree with spider on the 17aas. I would not take anything toxic to the liver and drink with it. Alcohol is very taxing on the liver already and the stress from pushing the orals is going to be rough on your liver. I tell you something I did try that I read on here that did help the other night. I took milk thistle after I drank the other night and no hangover. I know that is a side note but it helped. I also down as much water as I can stomach when I get ready to go to bed. Once again I would do everything I could to not drink on orals.
 
A shot of liquor almost has as many cal's as a beer. Also has sugar in it. Drinking will hinder your gains, if you cant not drink then do so in moderation.

I drank on weekends when I did my year long cycle. I dont think it negatively impacted my progress but there no way to know. I did friday and/or saturday nights but when the week hit I went right back to discipline. I cant complain about 75lb's in a year. I didnt need to completely deprive myself because I wasnt competing and had no plans to. For a competitor I believe total discipline is the way to go with little to no alcohol.
 
i kinda go by Bas Rutten's idea that if something becomes too much of a choir then you will mentally burn out. if you want a beer then drink it, as long as you don't take it over board you will be Ok

i dont think it will hinder your gains at all. But it depends on what you mean when you say "drinking beer".

I drink beer because I like it, just like a soda or something similar. If you are just drinking to get smashed a few times a week, or course you will hinder your gains. I will go out and drink to a buzz once a week or every two weeks, but I rarely get smashed (maybe once or twice a year if that). At my size (and being irish), getting smashed is a shitload of drinks and it taxes me pretty bad for a day or two afterwards.

IMHO, a few beers is just liquid calories to help my bulk. I even lean towards to high calorie darker beers like guiness.
 
Yep drinking has many definitions. I had a friend that drank three six packs of tall boys to get started every night. He would drink a case of 16 ounces a week. Just think about how many cals that it. He had great genetics too. Dude had 19 inch arms at 20. He is 350 now. Not muscular either. He eventually quit working out and apparently became a professional eater. LOL. I drink some. I am actually drinking right now. LOL. But its always good to remember that anything after six or seven is going to be some empty calories and carbs to fight off. Im not saying don't take in quality protein or carbs, but if you are drinking before going to bed, you are gonna have some fat conversion.
 
the yeast in beer in an undigestable carb that the body recycles over and over.
bodybuilders in the past used to bring ber to the gym for consistant energy through their workouts

rumor i heard, nothing to support it, is that the yeast in the beer will cause bitch tits and cause your lifts to go down
never had a problem with gyno so i can't say

Well, as of right now...I can't say that it's smart not to drink beer. But that's because I've got a really good buzz going. Love the day after exams!!!!! And I'm not on right now, which means that I can have even more fun!!! However, I do have to be up in a few hours so I am out for tonight. But I stand by my earlier post...curb your alcohol intake while on, especially if on 17-aa's. Doesn't mean you have to cut it out completely but remember that everything extra you put into your body has to make it's way out, and in doing this it will take it's effect on different organs.

Don't know anything about beer causing gyno or decreases in androgens, but it's pretty interesting. I'll try to find something on it tomorrow if i have time. night boys and girls

I'll have a drink every now and then when on gear but I can't get smashed like when I was younger.I know it would definitly hinder my gains because I can't do a dam thing for about 2 days after I drink anymore.I remember when i was 21 I would go out and get smashed about 3-4 times a week and feel fine now days I feel like death after a night of drinking.Just not worth it to me anymore.:puke:
 
I took it as in getttin drunk i guess. A beer never hurt anyone i love the taste of beer. Black and Tan ummmmm hummmmm. Getting smashed will hinder gains but a beer here and there wont bother you much.

Normy and Spidey yeah im trying to change for the better. Trying to get back leaner and bigger then ever. Drinking kills me lol, last weekend my buddy told me to meet him downtown he was gonna buy me all the beer i could drink at a bar that has over 100 beers on TAP. I regretfully denied the oppurtunity and went and did cardio :eek:. Hopefully my hard work will pay off :).
