I put my hands on the inside of where the tread (for lack of better words) begins. Do you get what I'm saying? My hands are on the smooth part of the bar, right before the bar transition to a rough surface. so what's that, about 8-12 inches? Maybe closer.

I like NAIR put my pinkies against the knurling (I spelled that wrong I'm sure). I'll also do quick reps of this grip than a set with my index fingers at the beginning of the knurling and then index fingers on the rings

I make a thumbs up with each hand and put it on the bar so that my thumbs touch and then leave my hands where they are. They are probably 6-7 inches apart.

I don't know how you guys can grip so close. My hands are shoulder width and my arms aree kept relatively close to my sides and I simply focus on keeping the triceps engaged and moving.

Hmm, i see pros do it at the width I explained and they seemed to like it ok. Cutler comes to mind. However, Cutler tore his trice last time he did that exercise last year and claimed in MD that he'd never do that exercise again.

Exact same for me!

same here, i get a shoulder width grip and let my elbows ride my body instead of bowing out

I can't do them them. never could, to uncomfortable. Triceps are my best body part. I wish I could do them just b/c everyone says you have to. Obviously not true, but I couldn't do them. I can do them after skull-crushers with the ex-curl to "finish" my tris but that's it.

wow, you guys all use some really close grips......i'm only 5'5" and i keep my pointer finger at the beginning of the threads/knurling or whatever it's called......the difference for me though is i really focus, at least through the negative portion, on keeping my elbows tight......they do come out to the sides somewhat though on the press portion (a bum right shoulder joint makes them difficult)
