How many of you have or do compete? Powerlifting, Bodybuilding, whatever?? I've done 5 shows. Worst I've ever done was Southern States in 2011. I over dieted, didn't fill out correctly, just a mess. I was so ill after the morning show I couldn't stay like that for the night show, so I ate and didn't show up for the night show. I was very embarrassed and really let myself down. I learned one great lesson from that. I can get myself into about 6 weeks out shape, but after that I ruin everything. My next show attempt will include will include a proffessional trainer. Some one that lives near me that can help all the way until I step on stage for a night show.
How many of you have used trainers?

I've used a posing coach who's an retired IFBB and now NPC judge. Very helpful to know exactly how to pose and angles..

I will be doing my first show next March. Therefore I will be sub'd to all threads with this kind of talk. :)

There are a few guys around here that I know that do diets and such, but they are small natural competitors and younger than me. I'm no risk to the Olympia throne, but I'd like some experience and I'd like a guy that knows the different roles that drugs play.

My posing is garbage too. I could probably do with some help in that area too. It's seems that most guys do stuff over Skype and things like that. I'm curious as to what it costs to hire someone to do diet and drugs and things for a show.

I am really hoping Nuk gets back on here and becomes more involved. I'd love to hire him

Powerlifted locally. I have one of the strongest guys in powerlifting to train w/ and I surrounded myself w/ others... Like Scot Mendleson, but I facebook him LMAO he's 2500 miles away from me. My buddy wants me to do a BBing show in Sept, I know little about it tho & have no coaches... I really don't think I'm ready. Guess we'll see.

someone i know saw him a few weeks ago still big as a house, i think he's pretty busy nowdays, but he can get his ass on here from time to time, lol

i have done one show 5 years ago and to be honest not really sure if want to do another or not.

i have competed since 2005. competed bb'ing until 2009. won a show in July 2009. blew my ACL 6wks later & was out for about 2yrs. competed in my 1st physique show in 2012 placing in the top 10 out of 22. competed in 2012 with the intent to qualify for a national show & did. competed this past wkd at the 2014 Jr USA's. this was my 1st national show. i do my own diet & training with the help of my wife. i did have some help from a friend of mine that is a professional physique competitor that competed at the NY Pro the wkd before the Jr USA's. he assisted mainly with my posing...

first show i trained with my boss at the time who was training for the ifbb masters olympia in 1996...i got 3rd out of 9...stayed on diet but cheated too much (dam vending machine strawberry fig newtons) and placed 2nd out of 5...didn't compete again til 2001 and got another 2nd place finish out of 7...not sure who i'll use for coach this time...there's a few pros i chat with regularly and doesn't matter who i pick they're all good...depends which one will take me on at a discount i guess lol

Fig Newtons are good! Those were a staple in my life growing up as a kid!

What's an average price and for how far out? To really compete you've got to be crazy shredded and those last two days are so crucial. I'm not about to dump thousands into a Prep without knowing ill show up dressed for business. I tried to save a few bucks last time and embarrassed myself.

$500-1500 is average range i'm getting...at one time quincy was only gonna charge me $50 per meeting/session which would be by webcam and chat since he's several states away

cost would depend on how detailed things would get. it can get real expensive or pretty cheap. some just want to see the desire is there & know they are not wasting their time. i do my own stuff other than some suggestions here & there. i believe ultimately you should know your own body & not trust it completely to someone else. they dont live in your body & everyone works differently. in the end, all they are doing is giving suggestions on what has worked in the past for themselves. it helps to have someone that lives with you help you because they see your changes everyday but not everyone has this luxury...

I've considered doing a powerlifting meet, but want to wait until I can total 1725@198 (1710 is elite according to 1973 AAU and 1725 is right on 500 Wilks).

If I could get to 181, I could kick ass right now and be ranked top 10 all time. If I had a diet guru or water weight loss expert maybe I could make it. I sit at a lean 205 right now so 181 is a stretch. If I got to 181, I'd either do a show the week before or the week after the meet because I'd be that lean.

I'm not sure how you can say that if you competed in Bodybuilding. When you are at 4% or less BF and measuring water intake by the teaspoon you don't know your body. You're lucky if you know your name.
Comparing this to Physique is a little absurd. What does a Physique guy get to 8%?? Your quads are covered up forget the glutes.
I mean no offense, but Physique is in no way comparable to Bodybuilding. It's like comparing your neighborhood paintball team to an FBI SWAT team.

I've trained a competitor too. My ex wife did her first contest and won her Pro Card in Figure in the same year. Qualified for Nationals at her second show ( won Southern States), won North Americans two shows later. This was is 2006 when Figure was what Physique is now. I know enough to know that a bodybuilder that wants to compete at a level higher than a Local show needs a trainer.
