Do any of you measure your resting heart rates?

Im just curious if you guys keep track of what yours is? I checked and mine is 53. It use to be in the upper 40s when I use to run alot. My doctor said that heart rate is the one of the best methods for approximating longevity. What are you guys resting rates?

mines 78 right now chillin at the computer but ive had 400 mg's of caffeine today. Usually mine is around 65 to 70. When i was at my biggest it stayed around 80 but i didnt do cardio back then either.

When I was depressed and wasn't working out mine got back up to around 70, but I gained some bodyfat too. LOL.

The most accurate reading for your resting heart rate is right after you wake up, before you even get out of bed. And it's best to take it in shorter intervals, for like 15 seconds and then just multiply it by 4 because your heart rate can change quickly. Just sitting here at my computer now, after 2 cups of coffee and the ephedrine I'm supposed to be laying off of,lol, I am right at 60bpm.

Just checked mine after having a meal and ive got about 200mg's of caffeine in me its at 84 right now.

I really should be in the habit of doing that. I'll have to check tomorrow morning as soon as I wake up.

That is a good point. Anything under 60 is great from what I have been told by a doctor. Im not saying above that is horrible, but if you think about it, less bpm equals a stronger more efficient heart and that means less strain over the long haul. I hate cardio at times, but I also will say it keeps my anxiety down as well as just giving you a kind of high when you survive a tough workout.

i always heard that the heavier you get the more your heart has to beat regardless. So i figure at 75 im pretty good at 245ilbs. Im sure it will get lower as i up my cardio as well.

is that true? Ive noticed my resting heart rate is always kinda high (although I dont take it out of bed first thing in the morning). Its always like 70-80. I dont remember it being that high 50lbs ago.

^^ i cant back it up with a study bro but thats what ive always heard. I think as long as your in the 70's your pretty good. Id like to see mine get back into the 60's but low 70's im pretty happy with.

Just think about it though, your heart has to beat so hard to push blood around a 170 pound guy. If you put on 50 pounds now it has to push blood through 220 pounds worth of tissue etc. It would just make since to me if your heart push so much blood in one beat so it has to beat a bit faster to do the same amount of work. Make since? It kinda does to me but im tired and i just explained that like a 3 year old lol. catch you guys in the morning.

it does kinda make sense, but since bigger guys usually have higher blood pressure, wouldn't that make up the difference? I dont know. Like the heart wouldnt need to beat MORE because it beats HARDER.

I guess if I just lay off the crack my heart rate will go down.

yeah lol both answers kinda contradict themselves. I know the bigger i get my BP doesnt go up at all. Hell my BP was low last night like 111 over 69 hell i weigh 250 lol.

hell, mine is always high - but I haven't been off in a long time so I guess that has something to do with it.

when I am off its nice and low.

I wore my Heart Rate monitor all day the other day and my HR stayed in the 80s. Sometimes it would creep up in the 90s. I'm wondering if it's because of all the food I'm eating right now. The body has to use energy to digest food right?, and if I'm digesting food all day would it make sense that my body would have to supply more blood to my digestive tract since it's always busy?

I haven't been doing cardio in a while since I'm trying to bulk which I'm sure plays a part as well.
