Yes, but thats why constitutional rights are not subject to popular vote: rights must exist *regardless* of individual emotional reactions.
FWIW, my father, a huge imposing man, was reduced to an incontinent aushwitiz-looking survivor becasue of cancer of the lungs, esophagus, and throat. He smoked cigarettes his entire life. His mother was also a smoker, and died of emphysema.
And yet, I still do not belive in restrictions on the manufacture, sale, or use of cigarettes, and I opposed legislation to outlaw smoking in restaurants.
I *do* value rights and freedom over and above how that personally affects me and those I love.
I would think that personally experiencing this, would lead one to believe that everyone should have to right to protect themselves with lethal (i.e. guns) methods. I dont have to be a victim of crime to realize that guns in the right hands could have prevented many crimes in the first place.
