no try to mix it up, free weights and machines
really don't use a barbell much anymore now that I think of it

I was actually considering dropping the bench press from my chest routine and opt for DB presses and flys strictly. I know a lot of guys choose DB's over BB's out of preference and others choose DB's by default (because they have shoulder issues when using BB's for shoulder and chest work).

It's hard to replace the bar when dealing with squats, upright rows, bent over rows and deads though.

I use Db's for pretty much everything.. just outta sheer ease I guess.. Much easier to grab a set of DB's then it is to LOAD each side of a BB with the desired weight.. PLUS I get a Hella better Pump outta a db workout... I even utilize Db's on Leg Day... Occasionally.. Walking DB Lunges... DB Bulgarian Squats... and DB seated swiss ball calf raises (phasing these out, not noticing much of a difference since implementing this) but STANDING DB CALF Raises are great.. especially for GRIP Strength. Holding a Pair of 120's and doing a set of 25 reps.. means holding those DB's for Almost 1min... if not more.. after a completed SET of those, my forearms are SCREAMING !! But.. LOL.. You CAN NEVER REPLACE THE SQUAT or THE DEADLIFT w/ DB's ... LOL

i love dumbbells

its a staple i never leave out ....

but if i feel somewhat weak that week or nursing an injury ill switch to move machines for better control and isolation

dumbells have their place, but you still can push more weight with the bar. I know its different, but i just look at it like that. But I do love some incline dumbell press.

When I do DB's for flat and incline bench I do seem to get more size on my chest. I was getting up there in weight when I screwed my
elbow up doing scullcrushers. Now the dumbells kill me on the first part of the press so I'm back to bar for a while. Still hurts but not as
much. But to answer your question - I do seem to get more size w/dumbells - on chest at least.

I use dumbells and machines mainly for chest. Barbell really aggravates my shoulder. Already had major surgery on my right so dont wanna push it anymore then i have to. I need to throw them in on back day for rows and on some other lifts like alternating for shoulder press. In fact i thin kill use db's for shoulders today :).
