Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC UFC 256 is down one bout after welterweight Dwight Grant announced he’s tested positive for COVID-19.
Grant (10-3) wrote on Instagram that he will not be fighting Li Jingliang (17-6) this weekend due to the virus. He said his symptoms were not severe and would quarantine before starting his comeback.
UFC officials did not immediately respond to a question of whether the promotion will attempt to find a replacement for Li Jingliang, but the lack of time before Saturday’s event makes it a tough task.
Grant most recently appeared in the octagon at UFC Vegas 7, where he was knocked out by Daniel Rodriguez. Previously, he’d won two straight in bouts against Carlo Pedersoli Jr. and Alan Jouban.
Jingliang is also coming off a loss with a decision setback against Neil Magny snapping a three-fight winning streak.
UFC 256 is headlined by a flyweight title fight between champ Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.
