I use the Smith Machine also. I feel alot more control and better isolate the quad. After having 2 back surgery's that is all I use. Plus you can vary your positioning of the angle at times with not worring about falling forward. Nobody likes to have a shit load of plates coming down on them!!! Also with the safety features it is like having total control.
405 balls to the wall ass to heals now thats some awesome form i have every video hes made lol i used to watch his chest day on my chest day before i went and so forth to pump me up haha...
I usually like to use the barbell because of the stabilizer muscles being involved. Now that I'm getting older, I may have to switch to the Smith machine to protect my back. I also like using the power squat and hack squat machines at my gym.
smith machines have always killed my back. doesnt matter what kind, what angle, what brand.
after going to the chiro, he said I have a fused lower vertebrae which limits my ROM slightly, probably what causes the pain. Free squats allow my body to move naturally.
barbell baby... smith machines are fun for some things when you want to focus on a very isolated movement but it's not natural for your body to go straight up and down like that. One of my training partners is a chiropractor and the only thing he likes about the smith machine is the extra clientele it brings him
they hurt my back (what doesn't) but suprisingly, I can do them with my feet fairly narrow with nothing on my heels. I cannot do a regular free squat anything but super wide stance without blocks/plates/etc. under my heels.
i love barbell squats heavy as hell, but i have to go as wide as the rack. i dont feel as bad about my back, sounds like im not the only one with prob. my L4 L5 and S1 are screwed.
