Filters?

Does any know how many MLs I can filter before I need to switch to a new filter? I will be using a Millex-GP 0.22 µm Polyethersulfone 33 mm filter for my conversion. It comes with my kit from UK.

It really depends on what your filtering, fina from pellets will require you to change the filter more often, but if you use very pure powder, oils, BA, it could last longer.

for conversions involving stuff like eq, and deca i usually switch the filter based on feel. since these types of aas are pretty thick i've noticed they seem to run through the filter slower than say prop. if i'm making say 100ml of aas, i'll usually switch at about 50 just to be sure.

also, when filtering go slow. don't try to rush it or you can screw up and end up spilling some. just go by how fast the filter seems to accept it, don't try to force it.

Well I'm making 100g of prop, but my kit only comes with one filter. I should have bought a spare just in case, but I didn't think of it till after I placed my order.

you can do it with 1 filter, it'll just take longer and eventually be harder to filter. it's not impossible by any means though.

Whoops, I meant to say that I have 10g of prop powder and will make 100ml of prop@100mg/ml. 100g would be way too much for one filter...lol!

not with that memebrane you cant, it will break down before you get to 50mls and allow the membrane parts to be in your solution.
Use a nylon or cellulose acetate they are compatible with BA/BB/Prop glyc/peg400 and dmso.
Others are not and will break down.

usually you can do 75-100mls if you do not force the pressure through and take your time but if you have large residue in there it will be coniderably less

Strider, are you refering to the filter that came with my kit when you say that it will give after 50ml or so? So should I just buy some Whatman filters before I do the conversion?

to be honest it doesnt even have to be a whatman brand as long as its durable and has the right membrane, the one you have is not compatible with all solvents in large amounts.

Look it up with a syringe filter compatability chart.
and yeah essentially thats what i am saying bro, use a nylon or CA.

Thanks bro, I almost couldn't help myself last night and wanted to do my conversions, but I decided not to once I though about abcesses and and getting sick...lol! I guess I'll go out and try to find some whatman's before I start. Should any of my local lab supply stores carry them?

The millex brand of filters just plain suck. I have found that you are definitely limited to the amount of product you can filter with these filters, before they become to clogged or blow.

Stick with the whatman GDX .45 filters they are the best, and well worth it.

they work, but why the specific brand?
Everyone thinks that whatman makes the best filter, i dont agree. they are pricey and very time consuming to purchase and everyone buys them for about $150 for 50 filters and they sell them for $5 each.
acrodisc sterile are the exact same thing.

.45 will not filter any and all bacteria, first .45 should be used then re filter with a .22 remember if you have made a solution of 100mg/ml it will now be about %80 of that or a little more.
its very difficult to tell unless its lab specifics are done. the filtration (as with any susbstance of this nature) you will lose some potency.

check a syringe filter compatibility chart before you buy and always get sterile filters.

Well I checked around and most places only sell cheap filters in bulk. Meaning I have to buy 50 or more. Problem is I don't need that many...lol. Anyhow I found some Whatman's for 3.50 a piece so I bought 3 for my current research needs.
