I usually put my ring finger on the ring just outside shoulder width. Do any of you play with grip distance. I have done wider and of course narrow to the point that I hit my ribcage for tris. Anyone do them reverse grip? I saw one of the powerlifters doing that and he hit nearly 700 pounds like that. Just curious.

i do reverse wide grip on the smith machine for triceps mixed and switch that with close grip bench every other week.

I used to switch my grips ALL the time...

now I just do the ring on the ring.... thats what i was doing when I was at my peak.

There more of a satisfaction feeling when I go closer than that because I can feel my triceps actually working , I barely feel them working unless I do higher reps. When I do the ring on ring grip..

But im sold on the fact that its better for me to do wider than closer since I think its better to focus more on chest and shoulders than triceps with bench.. There always great exercises like dips...

I tried reverse grip , I was pretty decently strong at it compared to my other lifts.. maybe 10-20% less than my normal maxes , thats also being fairly new at trying it out but.... I just heard do much against it for injuries and safety , true or not I dont care because its more tricep specific anyway.

I used to always put my ring finger on the ring on the bar, too. That was how I was taught to do it way back when I was in high school. It wasn't until much later that I learned that a wider grip would be better.

for reg. bench, hands as wide as i can go. i have long arms. for close grip, hands go where thread on bar starts.
