Been doing DC for a while and only using chest flys for streching. In between
DC and think I'm going to throw in some HEAVY bench flys. They seem to
give me size - or mabey it just shapes the chest and it looks bigger.
Anyone else do HEAVY flys? (hope my shoulder holds up!!)

Yeah But I Never Do Flat Flys I Only Do Incline Flys, Warm Up With 60's Then Do 85's 100's And Then 2 Sets Of 120's, And Yes Deep And Proper

I would have no shoulders left doing that kinda weight press, but of course your a few pounds heavier than me lol. But i do flat bench flies for the stretch at the end of my workout, doesnt take much weight to get that stretch/burn holding it for 30 to 60 secs.

for some reason bro i cant do good flat bench flys well, i wish i could, and i couldnt agree with ya more bro it doesnt take much weight to get a good routine in just proper form like u said, but damn bro i couldnt hold shit for 60 seconds,or my arm would fall off,lol

I never liked flys, they never felt right. Even the fly-type machines feel like crap.
I just learned how to actually do presses correctly.

Flyes. Now there's an exercise I really should be doing more. I keep hearing how the stretch part of it really helps the muscle to grow, and if I'd just do them long enough, maybe I'd find that out, lol.

120's?! Thats some weight there big fella! Im lucky if i end on 70's

the risk/reward of doing 120 pound db flyes isnt that appealing. that is equivalent to 120 incline press. and there obviously a ceiling on how heavy you can do flyes safely. and we all know heavier weights make you GROW. show me a man pressing the 160-180 for nice controlled reps, ill show you a man with a huge chest. IMO of course.

Yeah, I have to agree. I don't go heavy on flys cuz they're just too damn risky. I may be able to control a heavy amount of weight, but if anything goes wrong I'm fucked. I see dudes going as heavy as they could go for maybe 5 or 6 reps, when they would probably benefit much more devoting that strength and energy to a normal db press with a heavier weight. When I do flys, it's in a much higher rep range.

i agree about risk reward if ther 120's were killing ya to get em done, but the 120's are done tighht and controled, i personaly wouldnt do any weight that would potentialy harm me, for me they arent even that heavy in all honesty

lol, believe me bro, i have weak points just like everyone else, it just so happens i am extremly strong doing incline bench and flys, but if you seen some of my other lifts you might wonder how come i was so weak, lol

as I recall on ronnies training video, he did 200lbs db presses and then 100lb db flys.

he was struggling with the flys.

See now, I'm like that on tricep movements. If I can get that with my chest, I'll be loving it. Actually, I used to go as heavy as the 120 lb dumbbells for db presses (8 good reps), but as DB006 said, the heavier weights are risky. I decided that I was getting too much wear and tear than gains so I cut back. I think I'll start up the flyes again, but keep them tight and controlled like Presser does--I think that should boost my gains nicely.

Been a long time since heave flys - after incline bench I did about 3 sets of flat
flys and went up to 70's. Felt really good and easy. I didn't want to overdo it the
first time, other then my left shoulder which had
been hurting but held up. Think I'll try these for a while and see how they affect
my chest.

Did a good set of flyes the other day. Damn, was I sore after that--lasted three days!

I love me some incline bench and incline flys. I always go really heavy on the incline bench and semi-heavy on the incline flys. There is a real probability that you can tear your pectorial muscles by going too heavy on those. I always kept it in the 10-12 rep range for flys VS 6-8 rep range for heavy incline bench. Those are the only two chest movements I do and I've gained the most size and strength when I worked out the low volume, semi-high weight chest routine. Like DB said perfect form...Don't jerk the weights around especially with flys. I can just imagine my pec ripping off the bone from stretching my arms back with (too) heavy dumbells. :(
