How do you know your body is craving protein vs carbs etc???

I read people say, "My body was craving carbs.", or their body was hungry for protein, or they were just hungry for the calories.

I'm sure this is something that takes a lot of listening to your body to understand fully, but can anyone attempt to explain the difference between knowing your body craves carbs, or protein or whatever?

Is it what sounds good to eat? For example, if a steak sounds good at the moment your body is craving protein? If you're hungry for some rice or a potato your body is craving carbs? Or is there more to it than that?

I want to start listening to my body more in this sense but am not really sure what to pay attention to.
 
I can always tell when my blood sugar is low and that tells me I need carbs. Protein cravings are just when Im hungry. I am the type of guy who doesn't consider it a meal without some type of lean protein.
 
I personally think people only crave sugar or fats, not protein. At least for me thats the problem, I just make it a rule to eat my lean protein first so i dont fill up on crap
 
i get weak feeling when my body is out of carbs never realy had a probleme with lack of protein other than not getting enough.
 
I had someone on PM respond saying a protein craving is a low stomach "ache", sugar craving was more of an upper, almost throat craving. Does that sound familiar or accurate to anyone?

I've never really noticed the hunger craving coming from anywhere other than my belly..haha. Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention.
 
when your body is wanting food it is craving anything it can find...just cause something sounds good to eat doesnt mean that your "body" is craving a particular thing...

yeah, if your blood sugar is low then you need some fast acting carbs to level you back out...

bodybuilders eat food for 2 reasons:

1 - to build mass...

2 - calorie deficit to get rid of body fat...this is basically to survive & maintain muscle...

i'm sorry but i dont buy this "my body was craving protein/carbs" thing...although there are certain times of the day when protein/carbs are better to eat than others...

just because i am on diet at the moment & craving a Fudrucker's 1lb triple cheeseburger doesnt mean that my body wants it or needs it for that matter but damn it sure is good :D i will tell you this though, as soon as my show is over July 11th, i am going to Fudrucker's to get my 1lb triple chzbrgr!!! ...lol...
