How to open glass ampules

Okay, this is the first time I have a glass ampule, and I don't think I know how to open it (yeah, I feel a little stupid for asking). How do you open these things safely?

sounds wierd but I use to take a small file to them, cut them half way through...snap them in half

then put a whatman filter on the syringe suck up whatever, take the filter off and then apply

I actually resorted to pliers last time around. God only knows how much glass I injected imyself over the last 4 months.

that's why I use the filters, glass is actually a liquid not a solid
so it can be so fine that you can only see it through a magnifying glass

it also makes the sharpest cut know to man (learned that in knife fighting)

file/plyers, nurses use these all the time right never heard of them with a tool belt

yes, as a nurse, I use them all the time. I just snap it fast. never had a problem

use a cheap bick pen cap same thing as an opener the cheap ones the black and white buy like 20 at walmart for 2.00.

if no file the pen cap works good. usually by hand is no problem but somtimes
you get some that just shatter between your fingers so I would at least use
the pen cap.

yep this has happened to me so many times. I had like 60 norma amps to break down and put into 10ml vials-worst experience of my life. That's when I got pliers and just broke the tops off. Really, really stupid looking back but I was too lazy too file off every top. Again, I'm sure I'd be amazed at how much glass is just sitting in my body. What ever was drawn up into a 20 gauge was injected into my body. The Preg HCG amps are great though. Those sucker break right off no problem. The norma amps are short, small liitle peices of shit!

Hector made a good suggestion, if you are worried abotu getting the cap broken in your fingers use a bic pen cap to snap it with. When i run susp i normally just use a little piece of cotton swap, wrap the top of the amp in it and then snap. never have any problems.

if you need me to come over and help ya out jsut give me a heads up, I can even demonstrate how to use it too

ive also heard of people smashing the tops off with the under side of the kithen drawer. the glass stays smashed beetween the cabnit and drawer leaveing the open amp free. just line her up a little above snap point an let her eat.

I supposed there was some way to do it. The amp I'm trying to open is a bitty little thing for hcg, and I don't have a file. Given the line on it, I take it that's where I'm supposed to open it. I just don't want to get glass in it.

Ha! is that 1500iu one? I hate that son of a gun. That and the little norma one are terrible! The 5000iu one snaps off no problem though. I have to do the same thing myself today though I'll try using a razor blade

I have the 5000iu one. That's actually the solvent one in the pic. The powder one is a little longer, but the tip and neck are the same size.
