Now this may be because I've powerlifted in the past, but to me whether you powerlift in gear or raw, but I consider a gym lift and a competition lift 2 completely different things. Meaning that in a competition everything has to be near perfect, but in the gym people will say "I bench xx pounds" and I think to myself I wonder if they're touching their chest or if they're pausing at the chest or if they're going below parallel when they say they squat xx pounds. Like for example, I was watching football the other day and they were talking about how this running back can bench 450 and squat 600 and I started thinking that chances are good he's bouncing the weight off his chest or that he's not going all the way down on squats.

I think deadlifts are basically one of the lifts that you either get or don't so there's not much room for discussion there, but like I said this could all be because for me I may lift something in the gym and know damn well that it'd never count in competition.

Yeah I know what you mean on that shit. As for the athletes saying they bench and squat such and such that's just bullshit. A running back?? I remember when I was going to FSU back in early 2000 there was a line backer that everyone was saying was such a beast and could lift all this monstrous weight... far more than I could do. He ended up coming into the gym that my room mate and I trained at. This dipshit was saying he could bench 500 and leg press 2000. That day he got pinned under 225 on the incline while we were bangin out 315 for reps. As for legs he wanted no part of the 455 I was squatting. He stuck with leg extensions.

Truely impressive numbers get posted as competition results or shown on video to allow critisizim. With all the liars and ego freaks out there ya just can't believe it till ya see it anymore. Kinda sad really.

Yea, I don't buy into all these hype around what they say these athletes can lift, I mean if they can that's great, but I still consider it totally different
