YEah, Buddy!

This one will be brief - I am sitting in the hotel "business center" waiting for the breakfast buffet to open, and G&# forbid that I wouldn't be first in line!!!

GREAT WEEKEND. Great show, too.

Got to meet SJR in person, finally. One of the coolest, most genuine guys I've ever met. Awesome Dude, and someone I want to keep in touch with. He IS one big MOFO and, looks a LOT like Mike Matarrazzo. Being from the Northeast (and having a flat top foir years I guess until this week), they guy could have easily pulled off being Mike.

So - I took 2nd in the LIght-heavies. to another great guy, who ended up taking the overall. Same wieght (top of the class), but 3 " shorter - you do the math there, right. Awesome conditioning, but from the opinions I've hear, I still had him there. A couple of the judges that I had a chance to talk to (it was past midnight) had me in 1st. I was the only guy (I think) with striated glutes. I was just elated to be NQ'ed now, so I can do Jr. Show, as a HEAVIE!!!.

We had a blast on stage during the light heavies. My buddy who won the overall got to know SJR as well, so in the overall posedwon they clowned around a good bit. More interesting stories there, too.

Wore my MC gear during the morning, but had to switch to another long shirt (must be long sleeved in the auditorium d/t the pro-tain, et.). It was 112 degrees - not an exaggeration. I came out of the auditorium and felt like I was being cooked in a microwave. Needless to say, the beanie was out of the question. LOL

SJR looked great. He's still putting together his water, etc., but I think he and Skip learned some things this weekend. I'll leave it to those guys for the details.

Thanks for all the encouragement, Guys.

Time for buffet #1!!!

congrats Randy! Sounds like it was a successful show for you. Does this mean we may meet in the near future at a Jr show? ;)

After you've relaxed and settled in let me know what your plans are.
Great job buddy!

Hey Guys,

Still trying to play catchup on everything - work AND food. I actually don't have any pics yet. A friend has video and I need to get her to capture some frames for me. The parents have pics, but they are not home yet, so I can't get 'em.

Presser- yep, I got the long-sleever. Wore it all morning and sweated like hell. of course, I hadn't showered since the afternoon before and was, as usual, starting to break out, so I put on another long-sleever for the night show. When we're in the auditorium, we're supposed to have long sleeves all the time. Sucks big time.

Let's see. To be honest, I really didn't get to size up the rest of the competition much, b/c I was trying to chill before going on stage and focused on getting myself ready rather that checking out the other guys (although ti was damn tough to keep my eyes off the some of the fitness and figure competitors - MAN!).

The guy who won my class is a friend and deserved to win. He also took the entire show. He was 3 inches shorter than me and weighed in at the top of the class like I did. I had him on conditioning (barely), but he was obviously thicker than me. (use the 7-8 lb / inch rule and you'll see I need to be a heavy). I actually hung with him on thigh mass (maybe even better hams), but his shoulders were ridiculous.

I talked with a couple judges who had me in 1st and heard another one (the head judge) also had me winning the class, so it was close. Regardless, I think he deserved the win.

I was one of the only guys who had striated glutes, so that was cool. One of the judges said I had excellent presentation and I heard from several poeple that my routine was awesome (even if the sound was too low and the dumbass MC was talking during my music).

One of the coolest things I've ever had happen to me happened at the show. I did a show last Nov. where I placed 4th - same conditioning, just a bit lighter. I'll spare ya the details, but it was one of those political things and the crowd told me that the placing was BS. One judge even told me I just needed to do more shows in the area so the judges would know my face. Anyway, the guy who won my class came backstage, found me in the furthest reaches of the dressing rooms and made a point to tell me that he thought I should have won the class - no ifs, ands or buts about it. In fact HE wrote a letter to the NPC protesting the decision, saying that I should have won. He wanted me to know that, but didn't know how to get a hold of me. That was the coolest gestures I have ever heard of in BB'ing or damn near any other sport. To be honest, I damn near cried when he came up to me and told me that. That is one classy guy that I can't wait to compete against sometime again - we will have a friggin' blast. Jason, if you're out there, Bro, you have my respect and then some.

Anyway, the show was a super positive expereince and I'm now (finally) nationally qualified.

Kid - I'm shooting to "peak" for the 2005 jr. nat's as a heavy, but will prob. do the same show again next year as a middle of the class heavy (don't know that I can not compete for so long), just so I can take home the overall... 8^)

Of course, this means I'll be a 250'lb tub of goo, but I'll be one thick and strong SOB, I have a feeling...

Skip - I'll hit ya with an email ASAP, my man. Great job with SJR. He was very impressed with your professionalism, as was I.

-Randy

Politics suck bro, you know in your heart what the deal was. Congrats brudda, look forward to some pics !!!

Hey Guys:

What a great show and a great day! The atmosphere, the auditorium ,the fans, the competitors, they were all awesome. The prejudging was sold out-1500 tickets and people waiting on stanby to get in-I have never seen anything like it for a non-national or pro show.

Anyway, two of the highlights for me from this show was getting to work with Skip (see posting in the Competitors Q&A) and getting to compete with Homonunculus. They are both incredibly intelligent, down to earth people, who were just as helpfull and friendly as you can imagine. Skip, it was a true pleasure and learning experience for me to work with you. Hom. you are one of the most intelligent, well rounded, articulate people I have ever had the good fortune of meeting. I wished we lived closer together, I am sure that we would be best of friends.

To reiterate what Hom. was saying, I would have to give it to him that he was definately the dryest and most conditioned guy in the whole show-hats off to you bro. We were hanging out the whole day and night, with a friend of ours that eventually beat Hom. for first place in the light heavies (not by much) and then beat me for the overall (by only 2 judges votes- 3 others had me for the overall). I was kind of hoping that it would be me vs Hom. for the overall title, as we had joked about it earlier that week..it was so close.

Anyway, that was my first State Title and it was a good one. Thanks to all of you guys for the support and advice. When i get some pics I will post them
