Depends on what Im trying to hit that day. Ill always couple this with a squat movement, so I may do a wide stance knee to shoulder and then a closer stance smith squat or hack
For me it depends on the machine. If the back support is fixed on a steeper angle I have my toes off the end of the platform because I'm tall and feel like I'm cramped into a tuck position otherwise. Some machines have adjustable platforms or back supports which allows me more flexibility on foot placement.
i dont worry about foot placement on the leg press, nor when doing calves for tht matter.
i just do whatever feels comfortable. which tends to be a little lower on the foot plate since my legs are stubby
