Mat Fraser is shaping up to be the Nick Fury of CrossFit. On Sep. 17, 2022, the five-time Fittest Man on Earth’s training group, Hard Work Pays Off (HWPO), revealed on social media that they have enlisted the expertise of Catalyst Athletics for Olympic lifting coaching.
The addition of Catalyst Athletics — who coach some of Team USA’s most dominant professional weightlifters — to HWPO is the latest in a string of recruitments that is rapidly making Fraser’s competitive roster among the best in CrossFit. In HWPO’s Instagram post, athletes Jayson Hopper, Mal O’Brien, and Katrin Davi?ðsdo?ttir are seen with “HWPO LIFT” coach Aimee Everett of Catalyst Athletics. Check out the post below:

What Is Catalyst Athletics?
The addition of Catalyst to the HWPO roster indicates that Fraser knows where to go for high-quality expertise. Catalyst founders and head coaches Aimee and Greg Everett have maintained an active presence within America’s weightlifting scene for many years and have coached a litany of athletes to podium positions at various state and national-level weightlifting meets.
Notably, Catalyst coaches and supervises weightlifter Mattie Rogers, the most dominant female weightlifter in the States for most of the 2010s (by number of international medals won). Rogers, a 2020 Tokyo Olympian, has won 10 unique international medals in competitive Olympic lifting since 2017 and is the 2022 National and Pan-American champion in the 76-kilogram category.

With Olympic lifting proficiency being so integral to an athlete’s success in CrossFit, Fraser appears to have made a solid pick for his roster with Catalyst, who are familiar with working with athletes at the highest level of their sport.
Catalyst is the latest addition to HWPO as Fraser’s group continues its trajectory of acquiring elite talent. It was announced in early September that Davi?ðsdo?ttir, Amanda Barnhart, and Sam Kwant joined HWPO’s roster. In July, former American log lift record holder Rob Kearney was announced as the lead for HWPO Strong, a strength-focused program. Back in early February, Matt O’Keefe was named as the HWPO’s CEO.
The next elite CrossFit competition is the 2022 Rogue Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 28-30, 2022, in Austin, TX. At the time of this article’s publication, Hopper, Barnhart, and Kwant are confirmed to compete.
