MD’s Swimsuit Spectacular
By Steve Blechman
Ace physique photographer J.M. Manion has created the perfect vision of sun, sand and toned bodies, showcasing the IFBB Pro League’s top Bikini competitors.
The world is opening up again, and we have been working hard these past few months, pushing the iron to get in our best condition and shape for the summer! This month, Muscular Development is presenting our special Swimsuit Spectacular, highlighting the more curvaceous side of the industry with some of the most fit and beautiful Bikini competitors in the IFBB Pro League.
Ace physique photographer J.M. Manion has created the perfect vision of sun, sand and toned bodies, including IFBB Bikini champions Étila Santiago and 2020 Bikini Olympia Winner Janet Layug, who are on this month’s cover, for our “2021 Swimsuit Spectacular: Showcasing the IFBB Pro League’s Top Bikini Women.”
These days, social media offers total anonymity for any coward who wants to insult, mock, and belittle anyone else behind a troll account with zero accountability or consequences. But there once was a time when there was no hiding behind computer and phone screens. In fact, there was no Internet, social media or smartphones (or Google Maps … yikes). Ron Harris compares and contrasts what it was like in different eras of bodybuilding, both as a sport and a lifestyle, in “Bodybuilding: Is It Easier or Harder Today?”
Antoine Vaillant is no stranger to setbacks, having overcome drug addiction and a biceps tear. But Antoine is a fighter, with a track record for blowing through obstacles and coming back stronger. Antoine will also bounce back from his latest injury, as he tells us in “Oops, He Did It Again!Antoine Vaillant Tears His Other Biceps – But He’ll Be Back!”
Shaun Clarida is known as “The Giant Killer,” and the 212 Mr. Olympia winner has also been described as a “mini Ronnie.” But it’s been a long and sometimes difficult road for Shaun, who at 5-foot-1 was told he was too small to compete, and was even laughed at by some “friends” for wanting to get on a bodybuilding stage, because of his size. “I can now look back and say I not only proved them all wrong – but most importantly – proved myself right!” he tells Giles Thomas in “Shaun Clarida: A Lesson in Persistence.”
Things are looking up for Akim Williams. The MuscleMeds athlete is working with a new coach, Justin Miller, who has been George “Da Bull” Peterson’s coach from day one. Both are confident that 2021 will see Akim climb to new heights, and Justin declares that Akim “has the potential to be Mr. Olympia.” Ron Harris speaks with Akim and Justin about the upward trajectory Akim is on, the improvements he’s making, and what we can expect to see this year from one of the most massive men in the sport today in “Full Beast Mode! Akim Williams Is Ready to Level Up.”
