OK Ric Drasin for you that dont know, was Arnolds lifting partner. He also was a BB'er, wrestler, actor and stuntman. Hes got some great interviews w/people like Robby Robinson and a lot of the classic BB's from the golden era.

Heres the one I'm referring to. It preaches hi protein/fat and low carb. I'm getting a bit frustrated trying to get the last ab to show for contest. This worked back in the day, wonder if it still would work.

I will try and get some up soon. I will closely monitor my weight and bodyfat in doing this. It kinda makes sense, yet its sooo weird buying hi fat burger, whole eggs, fattening salad dressing etc.

Why would Drasin lie about this? He seems creditable enough. But damn this AM I felt like crap likely due to all the frickin fat I've been eating. But low carbs. Hopefully my body will adjust to all this and I'll get some energy back

Any update? Just curious if you're still on this and if you've gotten any energy back yet
Yes after a rough 2nd day, back to normal. If you take this thing at face value, you in theory should have twice the energy had you used carbs as energy source since fats have more than twice the energy (calories) than carbs. Its when you cut both, as in a few days before a contest, than you are drained.

After one wk today, my weight has stayed same and I eat minimal carbs throughout day. But I do feel a bit bloaty but that may be a passing thing. Gonna stay with long enough to get a proper assesment of the protocol.

Now after day 10, this lo carb diet I'm seeing changes, not the ones I need right now. The good, my strength has gone back up likely due to adding fat calories(more dense).

The bad is the strength also from gaining weight. My abs are disappearing, have more of a pouch near naval. So I was going to give this several more wks but think I'm gonna just eat the rest of my 85/15 burger and cottage cheese and go back to low fat diet. For whatever reason it just didn't work. Maybe the fact Arnold and his buddies were natural mesomophs and they were younger then so they could eat hi fat and not get fat.

But it sure doesn't appear to be working for me

OK I'm about at the end of my rope....I've tried everything, every combo still not much progress. I understand that 22 yrs ago (my last BB contest) I was much younger. 2 yrs ago I got the bug again but my abs are not cooperating at all. I did what I always did, hi protein, hi carbs low fat. Although I made progress, saw my weight go down from 245 to 205 and had much flatter stomach. But I didn't want to compete at under 195 and I knew I would be lower than that at the slow rate my abs were.

So plan B....low carb, hi fat/protein, sounded so good and made sense. That was back in January...in 10 days I gained weight mostly in gut. So I got off that, back to orginal plan. Then I talked to Robby Robinson and he said to get off the juice and get BF down to 10%, then go back on. Tried that again with minimal results.

Plan C, get thyroid checked after being on GH for 7 yrs......was off GH for 4 months when thyroid checked and no imbalances.....

Plan D....back to plan B this time fewer carbs, more calories amd more time on to access progress. The result was at least 9 lbs of gain in 16 days and yep you guessed it, in the abs. The fat per my skinfold at that site went up at least 20mm.....so I'm gonna give this plan one more week, then I'm back to square one.

I've been off cycle 5 months now and am itching to get back on. I've never seen anything so stubborn and frustrating ever. I've been at this for 30 yrs and everytime (except now) I have ever ttried getting cut, I see results within weeks. Did I screw up my endocrine system being on gear so long? My thryoid tests dont indicate so...

Should I do tons of cardio on lo carb? Of course I've heard contradicting opinions....should I continue on the low carb? Give it more time? This fat I have seems to be subq not visreal fat. I have great abs under all that. The rest of me looks great (if I do say so). Like my training partner told me "Survivor you are like this great looking mansion but have a piece of siding missing above the front door"

Maybe liposuction? I'm totally lost here....I just cant figure this out and the more info I collect online the more confused I become.

The vid I posted was how Arnold and the boys did it back in the day, lo carb hi fat/protein. And they got cut...

Your older now body is different. Im 50 and for me to get lean I have to eat no direct carbs, hi protein low fat diet with an hour of cardio or more a day. Im looking good but I feel like dog shit. Im not willing to do that. So fuckin what. I dont have ripped abs. oh well but I feel and look good. You need to accept yourself for what you look like and forget about the ripped abs at your age. Truth is most guys that do have them only have them for a few days for a show, then there gone. Im mean you 52 not 32. Theses pictures of guys with abs at 52 or 62 are when these guys are peaked for a photo shoot. No one walks around like that. Every now and then you do find someone but they are a genetic freak and guess what, you and I ain't. If you got the money just go get it cut off, it can grow back again anyway.

I apprecaite the consoling words, but you see I want to step back onstage before I "retire". Its on my bucket list. Yes I do wish the good old days back at times, when I finished 3rd in the Mr Illinois over a quarter a century ago. But I must live in the here and now.

That said, I beleive there is a solution to this belly fat. One thing that is the absolute weirdest thing I've seen, the one thing that NOBODY can explain is the rapid onset of ab fat. It was 5 yrs ago, I had a great six pack.....then with no change in gear, training or diet, my abs went away in the span of 3 weeks, Like someone flipped a switch. This lead me to beleive that there was a chemical change in my body that caused such a dramatic change.

Since the lo carb doesn't appear to work, the lo fat wont seem to work, maybe I'll try straddling the two, meduim everything macro.

IIRC it was a mod here at MC that told me to ignore the scale in regards to what I may compete at. I'm beginning to think that is true. So what if I have to diet down to 185 to see my abs? Nothing wrong with the middle weight class

what about trying the dnp, I haven't tried that stuff yet. From what I have read though the summer time is not the time to try it. Or just play around with your macro's. I might get back on the bandwagon here to and run a low carb style for a few. Problem with me though is the low carb make's me feel like a fuckin retard. I need to think in my business or I lose money. So the carb thing is a touchy issue. I mean m leaner but I feel like shit.

The thing that scares me about DNP is one of the side effect, death.
Is it effective in very low dosages? I'm sure summer isnt ideal either as doesn't it significantly raise body temp? Its been around forever and is a pesticide which is really all I know about it

If you're 50 bro I'm sure your skin has lost some elasticity. I've you've had a gut for a while maybe your skin just isn't tightening that quick. I have stubborn areas when it comes to fat and it can be bothersome. Good luck and don't stress to much. They say stress can be just as bad on you.
