Was doin deadlifts yesterday and my form was off for 1 or 2 reps and I tweaked my lower back like nothing else. Thank god I dont think I popped out a disc or anything cuz I could actually move yesterday and walk around but waking up was a different story. I tried to get outta bed and it sent a searing pain through my back. I think it's just that the muscle was reallly really over worked and is tight as hell but I was just wondering whether you guys think I should attempt deadlifts again next week or if I should wait a few weeks or something. Hmmm.... now where did I put that damned heating pad? This means one thing: I'll be on my computer ALL DAY and I feel terrible about it because today was cardio day

Been there, done that! You overworked your muscle and now its tightening and spasming. Try to slowly stretch it out every couple hours, take some motrin or muscle relaxers if you have any, and don't do deadlifts for at least 3 weeks. Be careful next time bro, deadlifts aren't to be fucked with.

Hard to say, if youir form was off you coulda done some damage depending on the weight and how badly your form was but most liekely give it a little time and you'll be ok. Dont sacrifice form when it comes to exercises like those or squats b/c you pay for it later on.

I'd go to a doc if I were you. When I've blown out my back, I had the same symptoms. Your muscles lock up to protect your back from further damage. I ended up with 2 crushed discs.

good luck bro!

well... as some updates... it hurts when i sit up... thats about it... i can walk around fine and stuff and i can bend over with only a little bit of pain... but damn... trying to sit up after lying down is pretty painful.. thats it for now

You may want to go to a doc just to make sure you are okay. Stay off the deadlifts for a few weeks. You'll need that time to heal.

Free? Doubt it but you may try. If after a week you feel fine everythings more than likley ok. I'd wait at least a week before spending a dime if your already getting around better. Its sore of the morning because of rest,,hince its a muscular problem. Just take the time and it will pass. I'd go a very solid 3 weeks without deads as was suggested above.

Wow... holy shit... I have been applying a combination of mostly heat... but then putting an icepack on it for 15 minutes at a time. I've been doin it a lot today and it feels a shit load better... woo!! hopefully i dont wake up tomorrow and i cant walk

Can I do all the other aspects of my workout? Or should I wait a few more days to even think about it? I just don't want the injury coming right back. I need to be keeping up on my cardio, but I don't know when I should start attempting it again. Any suggestions?

You could do what i normally do, and hang on a chin up bar between sets of deadlifts and squats, this will prevent injuries by decompressing your spine.

You shouldnt do deads more often than every 10 days imho. More isnt better and never sacrifice form.

bump, and you don't necessarily have to do them with heavy weights on a barbell. I've fucked my back up so much (from work and working out) that I've started doing deads with dumbells. You can control them alot better and maintain good form and they work well. Sure your not gonna win a powerlifting contest, but since when does that matter in bodybuilding. Sometimes you just have to priortize muscle development over strength.
