A MAN who illegally sold bodybuilding steroids world-wide from an Irish address has been sentenced to two years in jail with all but four months suspended.

The Irish Medicines Board (IMB) welcomed the ruling last night, stating the illegal sale of anabolic steroids was a serious health concern.

Brian Wainstein (42) - a South African national with an address at Bank Lodge, Knockraheen, Roundwood in Co Wicklow - received the orders for the banned drugs by e-mail from customers all over the world, including the USA.

He used the name 'Barry Benjamin' on his email messages.

He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to nine charges arising out of the unlawful possession sale and distribution of the illicit substances at Croswaithe Park South, Dun Laoghaire in 2003.

Judge Martin Nolan said he had been "leaning towards" jailing Wainstein for 12 months because of the seriousness of his supply of steroids on a world-wide scale.

But the submission by defence counsel Mr Bernard Condon BL helped change his mind.

Judge Nolan noted Mr Condon's submission that Wainstein had pleaded guilty and so avoided what might have been a long, complicated trial and other matters put forward on his behalf, but added that Wainstein "cannot avoid custody generally".

"I have decided to impose a two-year sentence but to suspend all but four months of it which he must serve so that he will have a taste of prison," Judge Nolan said.

Detective Sergeant John McGing of the Garda drugs unit had told the court that illicit substances valued at €15,000 were recovered at the Dun Laoghaire premises on September 16, 2003. He said the authorities were alerted to the offence as a result of problems with the delivery through international distributors. The substances recovered were analysed by Dr Hugo Bonnar and found to be illegal steroids.

The IMB said last night that its compliance department had been involved in the case.

Mr Pat O'Mahony, chief executive of the IMB, said that the illegal sale and supply of such products was a threat to public health as anabolic steroids taken without medical care can cause serious damage to health and used on a continued basis shorten life expectancy.

Judge Nolan agreed with a request by Mr Condon to defer the start of the sentence to July 30.

thats what I was thinking.

probably charge him for attempted murder here, cause AAS kill atheletes and it never anything else.

lol dreww yeah thats the only thing that has been worrying people is if his sentence was that light then who all did he rat out to get it that way you kno? hopefully no one but ya never know be safe bros.

yes, he is jailed, but AXIO labs is still up and running...... all sources that carry their products are also still running full strength ........ i just got done reading this off outlaw

bout time you come in and tell us whats going on biguy lol ive been wondering where you were.

It seems to me if someone was selling illegal items that they would of raided the source of thos eitems and shut it down... but what do I know. That is like finding out Donald Trump was selling cocaine to his customers out of one of his casino's and they only bust him and never even go to his casino to see what is going on there..

I am always leary of who is at the other end of a computer when ordering.. you dont know if it is someone wife, neighbor, kid, federal agent keeping tabs on everyone who orders and after 1 year they go and bust everyone who bought from them. If you buy enough time and enough product you could get charged with intent to sell and distribute..

I hope Axious is doing well and I am totally wrong but Freedom is a nice thing..

This is why I keep my levels at about 1000times the average test limit, this way if you get busted, it will hold up in a court of law that it was "personal use"...

Kidding, kidding, no I think we all here what you are saying, kinda goes with the territory, personal use cases can actually end in Rehab, and I guess it has to be worth the risk for the person using, but if you are doing something you believe in, that is worth the risk.

I believe AAS is healthy and most of us are responsible adults who are more careful about what we put in your bodies then DR's who just hand out drugs to collect Pharmacy kick backs and get big pay checks.. Most Dr's sold their soul's to "practice" medicine and then blinded by the amount of money they have to pay back to colleges and then how much moeny they cam make off of insurence companies..

I'm a beleiver is it's use not abuse... too many kids using it to avoid hard work and time in the gym...knowone has a reason for using AAS unless they have atleast 10 hardcore years under their belt and atleast 18-24 months of stagnation..

I wish all AAS companies the best.. I trust them more they any Pharmacutical Company.. they want their wealth to improve not your health..
