Thinking about adding natural peanut butter to my afternoon shake. Currently my afternoon shake is:

Vanilla whey protein
Glucosamine
Carbo-hit (slow digesting carb)

I'm trying to loose weight and gain muscle. I know it will add protein to the sake but will it add to much fat and calories to keep me from loosing the fat I want?

dont look at peanut butter as part of a calorie diet, take it for the energy pre-workout and the good oils in it. I hit the gym twice a day and take a tablespoon of peanut butter one hour before i go. Do not count peanut butter as a source of protein either, you will be cutting yourself short.

I couldn't tell you if adding the peanut butter would make or break your diet. That depends on your entire diet and the progress you're already making. However, I could tell you that peanut butter is really good for you. Make sure there isn't any sugar added. The ingredients should be either "peanuts and salt" or just "peanuts."

Hey there is a smuckers natural no sugar added that I love. It is great stuff. One thing I would add would be some glutamine to that post workout shake. I started it again a few weeks back myself. They have some stuff that has added omega fattys but I tried it and I couldn't stomach it. I can't remember the name but it was like "better than ..." Try the smuckers its good stuff.

agree on the diet. Cant tell how the peanut butter will affect your diet if
we dont know what your diet is or how active you are. My opinion is just
get the natural peanut butter (with the floater of oil on the top). I eat
some almost every day. I also sometimes substutute almond butter, also
the natural with the oil on top when you buy it. As far as dieting goes I
suggest using the mirror as a guide. The mirror dosent lie and always tells
me if I have to cut back on calories.

I love adding in natty PB i think it works great when your dieting. Just done get the sugar added kind and you will be fine.

Peanut butter has a lot of cals. Whether adding it will keep you from losing much weight depends on how you respond to different diets. If you're someone who loses quickly on an Adkins type diet, I say have some, but don't go crazy. If you're trying to do a low calorie diet, you'd probably want to avoid it like the plague (unless you're eating very tiny portions). When I diet, I usually try to cut out nearly all simple carbs and cut back a good deal on fat intake. Therefore, I don't eat peanut butter when cutting. I would suggest getting reduced fat peanut butter and moderating portion sizes if you want to include it.

When it comes to bulking, however, I eat tons of peanut butter and tons of any nuts that don't grow in a scrotum. (I saw that joke cumming in the next reply. Er, coming. It's a bad comedy day :))

Depends on how much you use.......A spoon here and there doesnt hurt. I used it when dieting to blunt sugar spikes when I would eat a high glycemic carb.......I dont see it hurting using it in a shake for a hint of taste if youre dieting down.

My question is why are you adding peanut butter? is it for taste? if so try a teaspoon first and see how that goes.....make adjustments as you go along.

IGF would be great for keeping mass on a diet also.
