Pete Rose erased from baseball cards by Topps - National Sports Relationships | Examiner.com

Here is one article that explains that Pete Rose is removed from Baseball cards...How I cannot make sense of any of this, is that even though he "gambled" on baseball, how the hell does this have anything to do with the number of hits he had when he played??

Also in the same article, they actually called Baseball Players suspected of Steroid Use, "villains"

vil·lain (v l n) n. 1. A wicked or evil person; a scoundrel. 2. A dramatic or fictional character who is typically at odds with the hero.

Funny, they didn't seem like such "villains" a few years back when they saved the MLB's ass following the strike...

Is this how they general public views Steroid Users??

However, those who know their baseball will remember that Pete Rose gambled on baseball. Because of that, he was banned for life. He cannot play, coach, or manage in baseball. He is banned from the Hall of Fame. Now, he is not even in the records on baseball cards? Wow

Baseball sure has its steady stream of villains including Mark McGuire, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, and the others accused of illegal doping. They have not had their names and records erased from Topps yet even though they have also not been placed in the MLB Hall of Fame.

Child athletic hero of mine when he played for the Big Red Machine, it's a shame he's not in the Hall, Charlie Hustle is every rookies motto thanks to Pete and his great records that still stand. I have his signed #14 home jersey in a frame hanging in my sons room.

This is a shame, he's one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game hands down. I don't care what he did about fixing a game, shaving points or anything. I see how that's fucked up, but I don't think it's worthy of keeping him out of the Hall

I'm on a baseball message board and according to the posters there, McGuire and Sosa did NOT save baseball for whatever reason.

Pete Rose only bet on his teams to WIN. That was one of his arguments. He wasent shaving points or fixing games.
What I cant get over is this is a great country where we are innocent until proven guilty. This if for robbery, assualt,
even murder. Innocent until proven guilty.. UNLESS it has to do with steriods. Then you are GUILTY if even accused.
Then YOU have to prove yourself innocent, which you never can once you name is even assoicated with steriods.
What blows me away now is how great this new hormone therapy is for older men. Thats great (notice they NEVER
use the word 'steriod') but if your a sports big name you have a bullseye on your back.
Dam, that Rose gave 110 percent. Loved watching that guy.

This topic hits a real nerve with (pisses me the fuk off!) All you had to do is watch the man play one game and you'd realize that he'd cut off his own limbs if it meant the team won the game. Why the hell MLB decided to punish him in the worst possible way and let others continually break rules and return to play is mind blowing! The whole steriods and villians thing I could rant about all night. During that time, if were'nt using then you were loosing, the bar was raised by the players and if you wanted to compete you didn't have much of a choice. And no one was complaining about all the big numbers, the monsterous home runs, and guys bulging out of thier uniforms. Alright I have to stop....my BP is spiking.

I hate that mentality of baseball being all holy and purity of the game crap. Purity of the game was long gone when they introduced the designated hitter. Baseball will never be at the level when McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, battle was playing out. That was excitement.
