WTF is with the cost of the equipment?? I'm thinking I could get a few necessary things and set up a decent gym at our place in Tennessee using converted storage containers. A Freemotion Cable crossover machine is $3200!! A Hammer Strength Chest press and Hi Row back combo is only about $1000. But damn!!! For the few pieces I would really need it just isn't remotely feasable. I'd have to drive near an hour to a gym near our place in Tennessee according to what I saw online. Any ideas on getting the stuff cheaper? Maybe a gym that going under? Newspaper adds? I really wish I could weld...

I have a total of $1700 in all my equipment, incline bench, decline bench, squat rack, shoulder press bench, lat and row machine with 300lb stacks each, 6 attachments for the machine, curl bench, over 800lbs plate weight, flat bench, and dumbells from 5-50's, 65's, and 85's. I found most all of my stuff on craigslist, you just have to look on there everyday and you will run into some deals. Hell I bought the weight tree and 600lbs of plate weight for $150.

Pm member "pro elite" he owns a company that makes this stuff and maybe he has some stuff new or used or can point u in right direction. He makes high quality gym equipment from what I've seen and maybe he knows some gym near you that has old stuff to sell?

Haha, thanks Presser. Dude I don't know if you're close to the Raliegh Durham N.C. area. but theres a place where I got alot of my stuff called prosourcefitness. They go in and buy out old gyms and school gyms and restock them. Then they sell the used equipment cheap as hell. I got the shoulder press, incline bench, and decline bench for $250 there. Not sure if they ship or not tho.

Nice! I'll shoot him a PM. Most of the free weight stuff won't work for me at this point. Especially for chest I have to use machines to avoid injuries. Maybe the crazy prices I'm seeing is 75% based on the name? I'd really like a cable setup and some kind of hammer strength style chest machine. A squat rack is one of the few things I'll need.
We're hoping to have our first shipping container dropped off by late this year.

I have spent about $12,000 on my home gym. I bought a bunch of Cybex pieces direct from a Powerhouse. I just called around and asked if anybody was interested in selling some equipment. You can get some great pieces on ebay for nothing.

Damn Chotto thats alot for a home gym. You can lease enough equipment here to open a nice gym for $15,000 and after the 5 year lease is up its yours for a $1

I like having my own stuff that other people aren't sweating all over and I never have to wait for equipment. Spending more time at home working out with my wife, dogs, and cats ain't bad either. I've got:

-Cybex leg press
-Cybex hack squat
-Squat rack
-Seated calf
-Lat pull down with low row
-Powerblocks up to 125lbs.
-Adjustable bench
-Olympic bench press
-Roman chair with chin up bar
-Leg curl/extension
-Cybex recumbent bike
-Inversion table
-a bunch of bars and cable attachments
-next will be a decline bench
