Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed the bout after an initial report from MMA Empire. The winter card takes place Jan. 23 at a location to be announced.
Burgos and Dawodu get back to work after mixed results in their most recent outings. Burgos took some time to reset after a decision loss in June to Josh Emmett that snapped a three-fight winning streak. The New Yorker is 6-2 overall in the octagon with three finishes in the octagon.
In Dawodu, there’s a big opportunity to rebound. Dawodu is currently on a five-fight winning streak that’s included four trips to the scorecards including a back-to-back advances by split-call, most recently against Zubaira Tukhugov.
Despite Dawodu’s resume, it’s Burgos that still resides in the UFC rankings at No. 12, no doubt due to Burgo’s wins over more well-known talents such as Makwan Amirkhani and Cub Swanson. A win over Burgos could get him the name recognition he needs to crack the top-15.
The UFC has requested a permit to hold an event at the UFC APEX on Jan. 23, though UFC President Dana White has also said McGregor vs. Poirier 2 could take place on Fight Island.
