Should Dexter retire soon?

Clearly he is not going to get much better, he came in with close to what he had when he won the Olympia, the only problem is that the people around him (mainly Jay and Phil) have progressed and gotten better while he has stayed about the same (nonetheless it is a very impressive physique).

So the question is, now that he is older (40) and more on the decline and not likely to improve while younger competitors do, it is inevitable that he will soon announce his retirement as oppose to dwindling out of the top 5?

Here is an interesting and impressive stat on Dex, he has not placed lower than 4th since 2001, that's 9 years and his last 8 Olympia's he has placed 4th or better (only Olympia he sat out was 2006).

No. Dex grew over the year and made improvements. He came in fourth at the O - not a bad placing. I'd say he should do more contests and continue his new training/dieting with Charles. I think he still has potential to grow. Jay's nearly done with his career and all Dex has to do is catch some one a little off and he's Mr. O again. IMO he should take a year or more off and put on as much freaky mass as possible. If he put on another ten pounds he'd be a legit contender for the 1 spot of any show he entered.

Being top 5 at the big two (O' and AC) allows him a nice income in prize money alone...why give tbat up?

^^^Damn good point^^^

After watching his movie, all the guy does is buy a hundred thousand dollar cars and rent an apartment. Hood rich? Guy needs a financial advisor.

But he's one of my top 3 favs of all time, I love the guy.

I'd say he still has a shot at the top stop at the Mr.O ...but, and this is a big but...the top guys Jay, Kai, and Phil have to be somewhat off...they all have been off before, and no one is perfect...so I say he has a shot, but the top guys have to be somewhat off...

Wht would Dex retire? That has to be the most fckn retarted thing I have I ever heard.

I didn't suggest it, I was just throwing it out there. I don't think he should, I think and I've said it many times that he has the most proportional physique in bodybuilding. If he puts on a little more mass, I think he's got the O again.

I love Dexter, I think he's probably my favorite bodybuilder, but realistically, Chris Dickerson was the oldest man to win the O at 43 and dexter is 40 now and will be 41 next year, his time is running out unless he can make some big improvements over the next year or two. He's been at it since 1992 or something like that so I mean 18 years is a long time to be a competitive bodybuilder of that caliber

I think he should get moving with what he is going to do after retirement. Let's be real in the next couple of years he is not going to have it. If I were him I would go all in this year and try to gain 10lbs and not tear a pec, bicep, quad etc like others his age. His body has to be shot after all those years at this level. He needs to get moving with something utilizing his name now if he hasn't already.

good points .... :pleased:

He is having fun and making his living. He is one of the top world bodybuilders in the world, look at others at 46 year old doing the same thing, why they should retire?
Good question and only he has the answer.
I am 92 in the ranks and I don't even think about it, I making money with my work with my sponsor and the last couple of years I can't say are been good for me on the stage, actually I've been in my worst and I am making good money besides the way I look on stage.
Can you imagine how much money they make???

no its not. He even said it himself that, he does not know how much longer he can keep at it.

True, but he didn't say he was gonna retire either. Besides, about 99% of the people on this forum will never look as good as Dexter including myself. Genetics play a big role. He prob has 2 to 3 more years left in him. If he would add 5 to 10lbs of muscle, he would be tough to beat

I'd venture to say 100% of the people on this forum will never look as good as Dexter....mr Olympia winner and a top 5 bodybuilder in the world for the last 5-8 years

That goes without saying, but 99.9% of us don't derive our living from bodybuilding. It isn't like Dexter has a engineering degree to fall back on.
