SLAP Tear

I just got a call from my doc, he looked at the MRI and said I had a SLAP tear, which is a torn labrum in my right shoulder. He suggested to have the surgery, and was wondering if anyone had any insight on this surgery or post surgery, any info. is much appreciated!

That's a tough injury. Find a really good specialist if you can if the doc you're seeing isn't one.

agreed find a specialist if its a bad tear then get it repaired, if its small go for the physical therapy.

I had a tear in my labrum and opted out of surgery...Everyone I know that has had that surgery has had to have several down the road in order to scrape out scar tissue, or other related issues.

On the other hand, if it is a full tear, the labrum cannot re-heal itself ever. But you can strengthen the muscles around it....

I healed around mine with PT for 4-6 months. It is stronger than ever now. It took a solid 6-12 months to really feel good on it though

This is exactly what I did.. I opted out of the surgery as well , took off about 8 months and it healed by itself..Mine was not torn all the way through. Feels fine now. I wouldn't get surgery, do PT and let it recover naturally if the tear isn't that bad. If it's bad you may not have a choice.
