Havent done squats in a long time. My lower back couldn't take it anymore.
Just started them again on the smith - dam, they feel good. Just wondering
if anyone still elevates their heels. We used to use a 2x4 or a couple of
10 lb weights. Is everyone doing flatfooted or w/raised heels?

I cant do a decent free squat flatfooted unless its an extremely wide stance.

I usually avoid free squats all together, they only hit my back and glutes/hams and never even hit the quads good. When I do use them though, Ive got my heels on 10lb plates.

I do squats flat-footed. I was never able to do the raised heels because it made it awkward for me for some reason.

I've done both. you keep your feet at 45s right??

Can't do them raised with my feet at any angle. It just never worked for me.

Turning the feet out only focuses more on the quads. The strict squatting method has the feet pointing straight ahead.

I've done both. I don't like putting any elevation under my heels. Too much stress on my feet. I've just about destroyed my feet from lifting weights and sports I think. The ligaments holding them together are badly injured/destroyed. So if I do them it's usually flat footed to spread the weight out across my feet. I have very high arches which is terrible for bodybuilding purposes.

That could be my problem, too. I need to have the weight spread out across the feet.
