was wanting to get some opinions on this, read in MD how Dorian Yates and Lee Priest talk about going to failure...then they mentioned how every so often they will taper off and go to subfailure for about a month, allowing their nervous system and such to recharge itself.

Instead of doing this wouldn't they just be better off taking time off completely? Not for a full month but say an extra week or a few days here and there.

not sure cause im not sure what subfailure means to be honest. I train each set of everything to total failure and dont know what it would mean to train to subfailure

kinda yeah
my point is if you don't go to failure why bother? you may or may not trigger the growth mechanism-just take the time off and when you resume THEN go to failure

I can see both sides, working out and not going to failure still stimulates the muscle fibers etc. so i cant see you not growing even if you never went to failure. I dont know why you would do it for a full month though. Maybe a week would get done what needs to i would think? Its an interesting thought for sure.

I'm not sure a week would be enough to let the CNS recover after weeks of extremely intense workouts. 2-3 weeks to me seems like a better time frame.

To be honest guys...Most of my workout is to sub failure...I normally only go to failure on my last set or two...

I still go heavy....but I might stop a set short of failure to go heavier on my next set, and take that one to failure...I've notice training like this, my strengh goes up faster (not killing my CNS ?) plus, I recover faster, and seem to be growing better ... Just some thoughts

I guess i thought he meant just failure on a couple sets. I never go to failure normally on the first 2 or 3 sets on exercises. Towards the last one i go to failure just about everytime. 3 exercises per part usually. So typically 3 fail sets per muscle.

I just starting implenting Dorian Yates style of training a few months ago,,, and I must say I am making the best gains of my life..and still at 8% bodyfat.... so much so that Im thinking about taking this year off from competing and come as a beast next year.... so from my opinion it is worth a try.....
