Supersets: any reason not to?

I do supersets for bi's, shoulders and chest.

BI's: barbell curls/incline DB curls: 3 sets

SHOULDER's: upright rows/DB laterals: 3 sets

CHEST: flat bench/flat DB flys: 3 sets

Supersets seem to work well for me, in that it limits the time working out and you get a great pump almost immediately after one set and you're very much exhausted afterward. Is there any reason to not use supersets (i.e. it limits the amount of weight you can push on a given exercise, etc.)?

Do you do them every workout?
I think for me I use them to break up the sameness to my body part routine.
I don't think I would use them for every workout.

I use them to for a change sometimes just to shock the muscles. I think they are good to use sometimes or for a while but not long term.
Just my opinion. Have you ever tried giant sets? You do 3 or 4 different exercises per set instead of two. I sometimes do these for my
tri's cus sometimes my elbows cant take the heavy weight I would have to use on a single exercise. Just another variation to break it up.

The supersets will accompany an additional exercise of three or four sets. For example, for shoulders, I'll do the superset and four sets of DB presses. For chest, I'll do the superset and three sets of incline DB presses.

I'm curious why you guys say that you'll only do supersets temporarily. Is there anything particularly counterproductive with doing them long term?

When I superset I tend not to go "all out" on my first movement becasuse i want to save something for the second movement. I think supersets are good to use occasionally to shock the muscle, but I would not do them on every work out.

ive never heard them advocated on a continuous basis, but as others have said, once in a while they can break thru plateaus

Good feedback. I like the drop sets suggestion also. Those I've never done very many of but I can see the benefit in them.

Like everyone else maybe once a month or something but not everyworkout by any means.
