so there is this article in my local newspaper saying that tuna is "very high" in mercury and it said that people who consume too much of it are at a great helth risk. Mercury has been known to cancer, Alzheimers(spelling?) and brain damage among other risks. Anyone here retarded from eating tuna yet? :dead:

I think I may be "half retarded" from eating too much tuna but so far it hasn't affected my work performance. No one seems to notice :satan:

Yeah, you wanna keep eating canned tuna to a minimum but partially hydrogenated soy bean or any oil for that matter has also been linked to causing cancer and if ya look almost anything processed contains it.

I wouldn't consider it anything that alarming considering many of the other things we are putting in our bodies....i'm sure my prostrate could do without all of the gear as well as my heart....

TheElmo, that's interesting that you brought that up. My local news channels here made some comments just a couple of days ago that there was a scientific group that found the risk of mercury poisoning was a lot lower than they had initially thought.

Links for mercury in fish

From what I've read/heard, where the tuna was caught is a big factor in mercury levels. Also, farmed fish has much more than "wild" fish.

Here's some links I found:

EPA's notice on mercury in fish:

A chart on mercury levels in different fish/seafood:

A bodybuilder's site on the issue:

As a biochemist, I can tell you that mercury compounds (methyl mercury) love to hang out in fatty tissues and are very difficult to remove. One proven way to get it moving out of your body is with vitamin C. Vit C chelates mercury, thus increasing its solubility so that you can piss it out.

there was alot of contraversy of this about farmed salmon in British Columbia as well.
They feed that they are feeding the farmed fish has high levels of mercury in it and it has been linked to causing cancer in fish as well as in humans.

really though look at the world. The oceans and lakes are full of garbage and sewage and shit. Its getting harder and harder to not eat fish that are living in those conditions.
IM lucky enough to live where you can swim in the lakes and eat anything u catch.

The studies show that one tuna can have very low levels and another fish can have really high levels. You never really know when you're opening that can. It's advised to eat it only once a month, and be extra careful with children eating it.
Wild caught salmon is a much better option IMHO.

As a side note, I've been getting organic grassfed beef that's free of hormones, pesticides, anti-biotics, etc. and it's low in cholesterol and high in Omega 3. It's very lean and it costs $3.30 a pound! And boy does it taste good!

well, with the money i spend on other supplaments i think i will stick to my hormone raised beef and my mercury fead tuna.....I'm close to death any ways so it cant do much to me at this point....lol

i was wondering htis the other day since ive been eating 3 to 4 cans a day for the last 8 wks. ims till alive. maybe not the healtiest but alive.
