MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the change that Blanchfield, 21, is stepping in on short-notice to fight Norma Dumont in a bantamweight bout at the UFC’s April 10 event. Blanchfield replaces Bea Malecki, who was forced to withdraw for undisclosed reasons. ESPN was first to report the booking.
Blanchfield, 21, has compiled a 6-1 record competing at 125 pounds for Invicta FC and Cage Fury Fighting Championship since making her pro debut in 2018. She has won her past three fights, including a highlight-reel head kick KO of Victoria Leonardo in February of last year. Blanchfield also won a 16-woman grappling tournament at Eddie Bravo Invitational 12 in July 2017.
This past November, Blanchfield was supposed to fight Pearl Gonzalez for a vacant Invicta FC flyweight title, but the bout was cancelled when Gonzalez tested positive for COVID-19.
Dumont seeks her second UFC victory after earning a unanimous decision over Ashlee Evans-Smith in November. “The Immortal” is 1-1 in the UFC so far and 5-1 overall as a pro. She made her UFC debut at 145 pounds, losing by first-round KO to Megan Anderson.
