Things have been pretty hectic lately! My younger daughter is in town. She is en route from the west coast to the east coast, driving. Her car was giving her some issues, so I've been working on it for her (I'm a former service tech) and things keep popping up. She planned to stop here for a couple of days and she's now been here a little over a week. I'm delighted to have her around, but it's disrupted my training. Likewise, I'm into some heavy work on the house project.

Hockey started back up tonight. This is the "winter session," even though it started in August. New teams, some new faces, and the skill level and speed of the game has gone up a couple of notches. My private coaching sessions and wind sprints are both paying off. I played very well tonight and had much more wind than even just a couple of weeks ago. The running and biking seems to have made me a little faster, too. That's a big plus. I was always the fastest guy on the ice even into my 40's. Now at 56 that's not the case anymore, so any increase in speed is very welcome. I'll I'll keep up with both and continue to improve! The pro free agent camp is in five weeks. I'm excited: I did pretty well last year and I'm in better shape; I'm more skilled and I weigh the same as I did last year. I found out tonight that my goalie training buddy also signed up for the camp, so that will be cool to have a buddy there. I scored on him tonight, BTW... 😁

Workouts have continued to be sporadic. My younger daughter was here 3 or 4 times longer than expected because of some car issues, which I finally got sorted out. It was a pleasure having her here, but it definitely disrupted the regular routine! That plus the usual house project.

I ran on the treadmill Friday, total of 25 or so minutes, 3 sprints. Started off after a good 5 minutes walking for a warmup with a 6mph run for a minute. Then 7.5mph for a minute. Finally 8mph for not quite a minute. The goal here is: treadmill set to 10% incline and 10mph and see how long I can run. I'll be very excited if I can get close to 2 minutes. So far I'm not even to 10mph. I'll be running today following my weight training.

Chest workout today. Usual PVC pipe and light dumbbell warmup including PVC pipe bench press. Then empty bar 1x20

135: 1x10
185: 1x10
225: 1x5
265: 1x3 vety happy with this. First time I've even attempted 265 in quite some time.
255: 1x3 Probably could have gotten another rep but I'm by myself. Not looking for drama...
245: 1x4
225: 1x4 These last three sets were max effort. The bar stopped partway up the last rep and I had to dig deep for the extra push to get it up.

Db incline:
60lb: 2x7

Db lateral raises:
10lb: 1x20
15lb: 1x20
20lb: 1x15

Db "reverse flies?" Bent over raises? Not sure what you call these. Targeting rear delts. You get the idea...

15lb: 1x15
20lb: 1x15

Enough weight training. Time to run, which I DO NOT feel like doing! In between two of my heavy bench press sets I walked a quarter mile at 4mph, so I'm pretty much warmed up. Plus, my heart rate is up because I supersetted the db inclines and rear delt laterals. So I'll walk a bit and get right into running. My low back is a little bit sore so It'll take a little bit to loosen up...

Running: I'm set at 10% incline for the entire workout. I ran (and walked) a total of 20:26. I started off walking 2.5mph for about 30 seconds, then ran at 6mph for a full minute. I walked until my heart rate (according to the treadmill) came down to 120 and then continued until I felt like I caught my breath. It took 3 minutes for my heart rate to drop to 120. It drops pretty fast from wherever it peaks (the TM takes forever to get a reading once my hands are sweaty) to 130. I saw 146, then a minute later 130, then a solid 2 minutes before 120. I probably walked for a total of 5 minutes. I even slowed down to 1.5mph to help get my breath. Then a 9mph sprint. I lasted either 30 or 40 seconds, I can't remember which. After that I was gasping, so I walked for a good while after that. At least another 5 minutes. Then I tried 10mph and managed to keep it up for 30 seconds. Walked again until I could breathe again more or less normally. Then I finished off with 6mph. I tanned to go a full minute but I didn't have it. My right knee hurts and my lungs have been seriously tested. Cool down slow walk at 2mph, then 1.5 and finally .5 for a few seconds. Time for some stretching.

I'm super happy that I was able to run 10mph at all. I wasn't sure I'd be able to do that yet.

I've pretty much abandoned leg training, what with all the running and skating. I should probably try to figure out how to fit some kind of leg training in to keep my strength and size, but my legs really feel it after running or skating. We'll see how that goes.

I didn't have coaching last week due to facility maintenance. I should be back on this week for training on Friday and hopefully keep that going forward. That'll work much better than Thursdays what with most of my games being on Wednesdays. The bad part about that is I won't be training with the goalies. It was good to be on the ice for an hour and a half, an hour of shooting (for the goalie training session with the goalie coach) then a half hour for me. One of the two goalies would normally stay for my session. We'll see how the new arrangement goes...

@EMW14 not bad at all. Getting a nice incline gives it a little challenge as you're fighting gravity. So good to see you hitting the cardio.

Bros, hopefully your knee isn't anything serious and you are going to be fine. Last thing we need is chronic knee issues @EMW14

@EMW14 car issues are the worst, especially considering we don't have much public transportation. At least where I live
