Yes, I find I need extra time to rest. In reading your original post, you sound almost like a copy of me. I'm 47, and I've been on HRT for 17 years. I get so sore in a workout now that I sometimes have to rest and recover for a couple of days before going back to the gym, although I think some of the soreness is due to training better for my body. I'm not type 2 diabetic, but I have hypoglycemia, a precursor to diabetes.
I don't understand why your doc would want you off of creatine or NO2 products. They shouldn't have any effect on potassium or sodium levels. The electrolytes I can understand since that would have potassium in it.
Also well over 50 here. The last 3 years arthritis has just eaten into my shoulder joint.
To the point the doc wants to saw it off and replace. I'm still at the Oh hell no stage.
I train anyway I can to keep pumping blood into that shoulder muscle group. I can pull, push.
Nothing over head. The arm wont go over head. I have been using Veterinary Liniment Gel
all over the should a few times a day. Gives some relief. The product is for Horses joints.
I read this line on the packaging. "Arthritis , A common condition in older horses, Absortine Gel helps to loosen stiff, arthritic joints and reduce swelling" SOLD I"LL take a case please.
I have learned as we age we can train smart. We can training around areas that bothers . Just keep training.
Otherwise doing nothing will sure be our demise.
Good luck to you all fighting the aging process. We still stand out in a crowd of 30 year olds.

Chemist adding his $0.02 here.....
In a sealed bottle, uncontaminated DMSO shouldn't change at all, really, on the chemical side. What *might* happen, though, especially if it was in use a lot before it was stored, is that it will *dilute* just a bit from absorbed water vapour, which will, in fact, reduce the burning sensation (which is basically water and skin oils being dissolved *out* of the skin and into the dmso, which pulls them through into the body. It's not significantly weaker, just a little less harsh on the skin
Training has been going well except for my right shoulder. Going to have to KT Tape it up and push through the pain. Been doing several different treatments including stim and Ga Shau / Fascial release. Just have to play this one by ear.
If you can find a chiropractor who doe Active Release Techniques ("A.R.T." has a website with a provider locater) you may want to try that. I've had very good results from A.R.T. specifically with my shoulders. I know two ART chiropractors who routinely work on UFC fighters as well as pro bodybuilders.
I have no connection with A.R.T. and am certainty not a chiropractor; it's just something that works well for me and others I know.
