Would you say it's beneficial to have a training partner or not? I trained for the longest time by myself, and while I like being able to do whatever I want, now that I've had a training partner for a little while, I'm finding that it keeps me motivated to go a little quicker and a little more intense. Pro? Cons?

I love having a good training partner. I always find myself getting a bit stronger just because i can go to absolute failure without risking any injury. Forced reps are great as well, i dont usually ask someone to spot so i usually stay where i know i can get that many reps if its questionable while im repping then i just stop with a partner i go until i cant physically get it.

The only training partner that stuck with me was my old roomate. He wasn't as strong as I was but he would talk shit like he was...which helped me get after it. Also helped motivate me on days I didn't feel like doing anything. He was there to build my ego up when needed and also to smash it when needed. Trust was there as well, which I feel is important, sometimes its hard to even find someone to spot you correctly. I know...a very manly statement lol.

I love training alone, but I just recently acquired a part-time partner in crime and I love it. We push, motivate and inspire each other and rock the same weight... it's hard to cheat yourself out of an extra rep or set when you're going rep-for-rep with someone else... and on days when you just don't want to do those lunges, but know that you have to, you don't have to suffer alone... lol.

We don't train together everyday, but on the days we do (like tonight), it's usually a pretty damn good workout!

I think it takes the RIGHT training partner. I can see how having someone who isn't motivated or would rather gossip than lift could be a huge problem...

I hate training partners, most of em try to tell you how to workout...Used to have a guy that took smoke breaks... I switch my workouts every time I go in there so I kinda stick to my own in the gym

My wife is the best training partner I've ever had

My ex wife sucked as a training partner. My girlfriend is an awesome training partner. She makes me stronger knowing she is watching what I do and then seeing what the other guys do. She wouldn't be much help if I actually needed a spot though. Plus I'm a little to Alpha Male

i have about 3 workout partners that i rotate from time to time. I work with two of the guys, and the other is an old college friend. They arnt nearly as advanced as myself, and only 1 does gear. So i basically lead the way and tell them what we are doing. Its alot more fun to have someone to bullshit with and to push you when your not really motivated. Plus i dont trust to many people to spot me on heavy presses and squats.

i usualy train alone, however I think for me it would be very beneficial having a partner, the reason being is i always go to failure and never count reps i only count sets, so for the way i workout i think a partner would be great!

Now and then my wife works out with me, and to be honest, we both say that when we workout together we get some of the best workouts we have had in a while

I think it's beneficial for sure.. I trained on my own for about 8 years and just recently started getting my ass up at 530am, to be in the gym with one of my buddies at 645am. That is the only time he can get in there and after work the place is so crowded it's not worth going.. We've been lifting for about a month now 5 days a week and I already notice a HUGE difference with my endurance and strength. It not only helps with motivation but also a consistent spot and those last few reps you can rip out when having a partner.. I'm loving it so far.. One big thing I've noticed is that I have not cheated once (reps/sets going to the gym in general) since having a partner.. I already notice a difference in overall fullness.

I happen to be the bigger partner so I get to tell him what to do, lol, but it does make me want to try harder--good motivation to have someone telling you, "C'mon, you can do one more, pump it out."
