So my old training partner is a strongman amateur competitor and he's back in town for a week. He has a lot of training equipment on his dad's farm so he invited me to come up Saturday to train with him. I'm all about trying new things so I'm excited to give this a go and see what it is all about. I'm pretty stoked to try some of the events that they do. Wesley can talk all day long about this stuff, but I'm sure it isn't as easy as he makes it look. I'm sure I'm going to get my ass kicked and I'm excited for it. He has over 100# on me so I'm just hoping he has some shit that I can do or handle.

This is great news, looking forward to hearing your experience with it!!!

And thank you for the compliment...I didn't know I made it look easy LOL..I am a good actor then..because usually I am smiling on the outside and crying on the inside with some of those events we do :)

Have fun man!!

Wesley care to opine of atlas stones? I know of a guy that makes them at home, and he has varying wweights of them. I've never done them but am curious. My gym is space challanged but I think I could build a platform for them on one of my power racks. Adjustable too

Sorry man I am not sure the question..I am thinking you are asking what is my opinion on Atlas Stones?? If that is correct I love them..but you can get hurt very easily on them, because the stone is smooth. Plus you are pulling it from the bottom, literally less then an inch off the ground, think a deadlift with the bar off the concrete and this is it...You see alot of bicep tears if people are not careful or don't use tacky which is like a glue to help lift the stones if they are too smooth. It will hit every single muscle group. It will develop a section of the quads just like a front squat bc that is essentially what it is. It will make your back thick and gigantic..and if you do lightweight, roll it off the platform and then reload and repeat, it is one hell of a workout. I personally love Atlas Stones. It is always the last event...it's very exciting when you put 1st and 2nd place against each other and the last event determines the winner.

This was my favorite but also worst example, since of course I wanted my partner to win..This is Poundstone versus Pudz in 2008 for the championship. This was the last event of the whole contest. Derek was up by 1 point. Whoever won this event wins, since it puts him one place ahead of the other and each place is worth 2 points.

What you can't see is that it was raining out...and Derek calmly explained that he dropped the stone bc it was slippery in the rain. Those stones are slippery to begin with. He was an inch away from being "Worlds Strongest Man" that year. He has a picture in his house blown up of him and Pudz in this final scene. Its about 3 feet high and 8 feet wide. He handles it much better then I would have

Yes I was asking strictly from a bodybuilding POV. Sounds like they are great conditioning tools. I think the cool thing like you said is that they are not meant to be picked up making it harder than hell. Gonna have to buy some light ones and move up. Good vid too. If you do lots of reps it becomes somewhat aerobic in nature right?

Wow, that's about all I can say. I'm fucking miserably sore after training yesterday. We did fingal fingers, farmers walk, power cleans, safety presses. He did atlas stones but since I had cut my arms up pretty good on the fingal fingers he didn't want me getting blood all over the stones so I passed. I was exhausted anyway so I didn't complain. Then he has power stairs with a 450# weight (not sure what the name of it is) but it was basically a piece of steel in a pyramid shape with a handle on top. We didn't do the power stairs but simply used the weight and deadlifted it which was all I could take at that point. So needless to say I'm sore in places I've never been sore. The farmers walk was probably the hardest of the bunch. I have no clue what his sled weighed, but he had it made so he could add more weight onto it. I'd guess and say it weighed 250-300# but it may have weighed more because I had a hell of a time picking it up yet alone walking with it. My stabilizers all the way up my spine are beat to death. I've got a whole new respect for any and all strongman competitors out there, that shit is no joke
