Anybody else go pretty strict on this? I try not to have workouts go over an hour. Its usually really easy to do but if it runs an hour 15 or so thats not a big deal. I just think that after that im always drained to the bone anyways and theres no point in pushing any more.

I see people in the gym that were there when i got in and they will still be hitting it when i leave. My take is if your not ready to fall over after a full hour of lifting your not hitting it hard enough.

Is there a science to the body to not stay in there longer? like test production falls or something? Im trying to keep my buddy from overtraining but he doesnt listen so if i have a scientific reason he will listen lol.

According to the Max-OT concept a good lift is about 30-45 min. Any longer can lead to over training and using muscle tissue for energy once your glycogen storage runs out. Overload your muscle tissue for just under an hour. If you can go longer than that either stop or you push yourself harder during your 45 min.

I usually try to keep it to around an hour or so. As dcp3450 said, going much longer will lead to overtraining because of glycogen depletion.

mine are usually and hour and 15 minutes. Maybe a little longer if doing legs due to all the plate loading and unloading. But Im usually consuming calories while I workout because if not I will crash.

I usually go 45 to an hour myself. I have read in several places that cortisol is released after around that time and it is actually detrimental to train. I also read that glycogen is depleted and know that is the importance of carbs before and after as well. I remember as well in a molecular biology class that great expense of energy causes an ATP shortage too. It really is amazing, yet very aggravating to study, how the body breaks hydrogen bonds to create ATP. I remember several supps that were suppose to help address that, but ATP is literally the gas for our engine so to speak. It is funny to that without photosynthesis this world wouldn't exist and we would not be alive either as that is the ultimate source of the hydrogen. Biology lesson complete.

It realy varys for me depending on cardio i guess but I generaly dont take much time in between sets so i sweat like a pig as well, its kinda like i did cardio after i do a normal workout, anyways can do a very good workout in about 45 minutes

A couple of my workouts take close to two hours. I should really be taking in some carbs while I'm in there. But I work out at a gym on base, so there are always guys there that I know really well, so I end up spotting and bs'ing for awhile..

Thats not too bad if ur shooting the shit half the time and spotting others, but if u were doing 2 hours of straight work out then i am sure u know that would be detrimental to ur gains

Agreed bro. So tell the truth are you scoping out fitness chicks or is that workout only. I only did that much time cutting and when I did I took in simple carbs during to keep glycogen in the muscles and drank a shake during my workout of fast acting protein. No caseins. Just a thought bro. I admire your dedication. I dropped nearly 14 pounds in a month doing that. Cardio on the ellip and burned 700 calories in twenty minutes. i was cruising.
