Arrgh! My lifting straps are really stiff so they dig into me when I use them. Who makes some really good straps? I need to get some better ones.

I heard APT straps are really good. I need to get me a pair, but I just use the cheap Nylon ones however when I lift really heavy weight they have dug into my skin so bad that it has caused it to cut my skin and actually bleed. So I would try to find ones that have a neoprene or soft cover to cover your wrists so it doesn't cut you up like the cheaper nylon straps. Those cheap ones definitely lasted a long time though, but after a couple of years it started to fray at the ends. They still worked just fine (even though I shed some blood at times. Kinda badass, I think. haha. Like a mark of honor. lol.), but I would spend the extra cash and get something that is comfortable and is made of quality materials. You'll be happier with the comfort and they will last you a long time if they are quality straps.

BTW I always get the ones that wrap around the bar. I wouldn't use any other type of gear. I.E. The hooks, gloves, etc.

I stopped using wraps thinking i would develope stronger forearms... Anyone else have this thought?

I actually felt like my gripped/forearms improved because I was able to hold much more weight without worrying about sweat making my hands slip and I also tried to use as little strap as possible when gripping the weight.

I used to just go to a canvas/awning shop and have them cut me a couple lenghts
of canvas strap. They wernt sewn together but I liked it better like that once I got
used to them. Never had a problem with them rubbing the skin and they got very
soft after a while. Only cost couple of bucks. I dont use them any more and do
think my forearms are much stronger. I concentrate on my back and it fatigues before
forearms. Earily in my training my forearms were the weak link and w/straps I could
really up the weight.

I've heard the same thing. Grip strength = more power, strength goes up. Not sure but worth the try..

Supposedly, you should only use straps to lift heavier weight that you would normally not be able to hold on to. That's the thinking I follow, and I can now shrug more than 225 without the straps. I just try to do it without the straps first, and then if I really can't hold on to it, I use them and go heavier from there. I think I have the same cheap nylon ones BiggerStronger mentioned. They cut into me and sometimes leave me bruised. That canvas idea sounds good though.

i gotta say it........

i brought the bsn LTF straps, and their not too bad. they are alittle thick w/ padding on the inside. but let me tell you the design is kick ass, everyone asked where i got them :-)

I still use the old canvas straps and they still dig into my wrists  don't care though.

I always use straps on deadlifts, Yates rows and shrugs. This allows me to handle more weight and hit the target muscle group. At the end of the workout I will pile the weight on the bar and just hold it as long as possible before my grip gives out. This works wonders. On a good day now I can close the 2.5 Capt. of K
