Wife started going to the gym with me!!!

I've been politely trying to get her into the gym for a long time now. She looks great right now as she is @ 5'4 115lbs...but she has never worked out in her life, other than after the kids to lose the weight. I have been telling her that getting in there will make her feel better and get her in better shape. She went with me for the first time this week and she loved it. My problem is that I didn't work out with anywhere near the intensity that I normally do when she was there b/c she is new and I didn't want her thinking she needed to do that. We are going again this afternoon and I'm going to crank it up a little. Also, if any of you have your wives go with you, do you trust them to spot you??? I need a workout partner and if she countinues going to the gym she will get better @ spotting, but I'm a little hesitant to load the bar right now. Not really sure if I should just relax a little and waits until she starts to really get it or just to go balls to the wall like usual. I want to start DC again, but I don't know how well this will work with her, and I really need a partner to do DC with. Any advice from guys that have worked out with chicks before is welcome, as I never have. Thanks
 
my ex wife used to spot me but she was pretty experienced with lifting and listened well and learned. My current wife(currently pregnant) told me last night that she wants to come down to the gym with me while I'm working out so she can do some light weight work. I almost fell off my chair! I'd be really pysched if she got into it and I told her it's a good idea if she's going to have to be holding my fat kid and carrying him/her around all the time.
 
if you think about it when it comes to spotting you say on the bench for instance, even if you have houndreds of pounds on the bar and you need her to spot you all you need her to do is lighten the bar a little bit by lifting a few pounds off of it so you can get it off your chest. Now if you want to do negatives you'd better get a bigger wife or a spot. lol.
 
my girl went with me for a little while when i was doing dc training
i had her doing the same workout as me
i had her wrap her knees squatting and everything
i think she got 185 lbs
i was pretty impressed
 
You are all very lucky to have wives who like going to the gym. Mine is still complaining about the fat she has, but she still hasn't been bitten by the bug to go to the gym even though she is paying for a membership. She used to go with me a few years back, but we would go work out separately since she had no interest in what I was doing, and she "only wanted to lose some weight" so she would go walk/run on the treadmill for an hour. She didn't get very good results back then because she wouldn't modify her diet such as getting rid of the 1-2 20oz Cokes per day that she would drink. Only in the recent few months have I been able to get her to stop doing that, and she's trying to eat more healthy, but she seems to think she only needs to watch the diet--which will work but very slowly.
 
that's all pretty good news guys...we're about to head out so I will let you all know how she handles the workout today. I don't have her working out at all like I do, but she is doing the same exercises.
 
take it for what you think it's worth guys but I would never have my girl go to the gym w/ me...
I'm a raging fuckin' lunatic in there...I throw on the MP3 listen to Slipknot
and stare at the floor the whole time...everyone in there thinks that I'm some sort of psycho. :(
I even told my girl that I don't want her seeing me in the gym because I'm so damn ugly...not that I make noise and yell and all that but the veins say it all :moon:
she said that it's cool and it's nothing that she hasn't seen before...but I don't know ( :fyi: she does have her IFBB pro card in fitness) however I'm still leary :confused:
 
I wouldnt have her spot you - would you have another "newcomer" spot you?
I have been working out for years and in the spurts that my wife comes I do
"my" workout and set her up on "her" workout. If she keep it up for awhile and
starts getting serious then mabey you guys can do the same workouts. Just my
opinion bro.
 
Good points guys. I won't have her spot me on anything dangerous, i.e. squats, incline bb press, etc...but I am going to stick with the db's for a couple more weeks and try to teach her how to do it. No I wouldn't let a newb spot me, but if one wanted to learn and I think I could get a workout p out of it, I would teach him how to do it...probably. I upped the intesity this weekend and she was Ok with it...I'm probably going to keep it dialed back a little for the next 2 or 3 weeks until she really catches the bug and then I'll let her see how I normally act in the gym. I really want her to keep working out and I don't really see another way to do it. We're closing in on 8 years now and she's only now started going to the gym...so I'm going to stick with her for a few more weeks. She's enjoying it and feeling better about herself. Plus it would sure be nice to be on the same page diet wise...it's hard to eat good when she's making blackberry cobblers 2x a week.

I'm going to keep her doing the same workouts I am doing, well at least the exercises, until she finds what she likes and doesn't like. Then we'll switch it up. Going to start DC up again in about 3 weeks (when I come off) so that'll give us plenty of time to get her going in the right direction before I get the intensity back to where it needs to be.
 
Careful not to get her burned out with too much too soon. Brooooo., blackberry
cobbler ONLY two times a week - that's acceptable in my book. (wish my
oldlady made em once a month)
